Control Loop Foundation - Batch and Continuous Processes

Build your DCS/DeltaV foundation
It doesn't say it in the book description, but this book is mostly geared towards gaining an understanding of the capabilities of DeltaV. For example, the parameters in the examples are standard DeltaV parameters and the function blocks shown in the example are screen shots taken from DeltaV's control studio. However, there are plenty of process examples to provide non-DeltaV users with necessary knowledge of process control theory.Having said that I found this book to be very helpful in presenting control examples for the DeltaV platform. My background is primarily in PLC's utilizing ladder logic, so this served as a proper transitional text. I especially enjoyed the section comparing model predictive control (MPC) and PID blocks.I learned about this book while attending DeltaV training in Austin, TX and the author (Terrence Blevins) hand delivered this book and two others so that I could look through them before I bought the kindle version. I was impressed by this gesture and proceeded to purchase the books almost immediately. I'm glad I did because this book provides readers with a good overview of process control using a DCS. The book also enhanced my classroom learning experience. If you don't buy the book, at least check out the controlloopfoundation.com website. This is a great way to get started. However, I would recommend purchasing the book, because there a few books on DCS and this one is written in a simple manner that is very easy to digest.

Really helpfull
This book is really helpful if you are getting into the control world. It has a little bit of history and goes trough different basic control topics. It also covers some function blocks and some of their variables, it has different process examples and applications. I really recommend it if you are new in the field, it might not go deep enough for a more experience people.

Excellent overview of modern process automation techniques
The authors do a great job of starting out basic for those who may be new to the process automation industry, but later build into many advanced concepts. Seasoned automation experts may find this book a little to basic, but this is a great read for anyone who is looking for a crash course in modern industrial control and automation systems.

For the price this book is not worth to buy ...
For the price this book is not worth to buy. This is very expensive book, and most of the material in this book, can be googled online. However the author is knowledgeable.

DESCRIPTION PROCESSES
Few authors had written about description procesess. As a complement to the flow-diagrams and the descriptions in writing, this books covers the subject.

Primarily for novices
The information in the book is mostly at a level for people who have little to no knowledge of control systems. Except for the few specific examples late in the book regarding use of DeltaV, there was very little of value in it for me.

Not Bad
Clarity is bad.Figures are too blurred.Content is lacking on project documentation. Also there isn't enough explanation and distinction amongst SCADA,PLC and DCS.
