Note: Book received was not as shown herein
Nice selection of many rhubarb recipes & plant information. *** Sadly, Please Note: the book cover I received was not as colorful or interesting as pictured here. Honestly, I thought I received the wrong book! My book - No colorful rhubarb stalks as shown, just a basic beige cover with green border & red lettering. No pictures within this book, again just beige recipes w/green border and lettering. It will be fine for my personal use. I just know I never would give it as a gift since it looks... "just so basic & ordinary". Too bad since the cover shown looks interesting & I think it would have made a nice, fun gift.

Great answer to "What do I do with all this rhubarb?"
Like a lot of other gardeners, I have a rhubarb plant that is uber-prolific. For the last several years, I've promised myself I was going to do something besides wait til the end of summer and then trash all the by-then-rotting stalks. The Joy of Rhubarb is a perfect answer. I grew up with the idea that rhubarb went into pie, and maybe jam or conserves, and that was all. The author, however, has assembled recipes for rhubarb quick breads, rhubarb chutney, rhubarb salads, rhubarb dessert sauces, and a lot more. So far, I've made 5 recipes from the book - walnut rhubarb chutney, rhubarb ketchup, rhubarb-rasberry jam, rhubarb-orange sauce, and the rhubarb pork chop casserole. The only one I didn't like was the pork chop casserole, because it seemed to be mostly bread crumbs. I'd re-do it using 1/3 the bread crumbs or just skip them. My son loves the rhubarb ketchup (uses it on french fries) and the rhubarb-rasberry jam. The recipes are clear and easy to follow. I'd definitely buy this book again.

Gave it as a gift!
I have this book already and gave it this new one to a family member who just inherited a large bush of rhubarb! How lucky! Happy rhubarb memories!

The Joy of Rhubarb: The Versatile Summer Delight
Love this book. I have a small rhubarb patch that in the spring bears one of the first crops for the kitchen. The stalks are about11/2 to 2" thick and about 3 feet high so naturally I am always looking for new receipts for rhubarb. I haul this book out every spring trying to decide what goodie to make. You might find this is all the cookbook that you need for rhubarb. Enjoy. I going down to the freezer to get some to make rhubarb stew; one of my favorites.
