Successful Coaching

I purchased this book for my NYS Coaching Certification. I preferred the printed version because my eyes are to tired of looking at screens. Great information!

Even though this was written edited six years ago the material is still relevant. This is an excellent resource for beginning, as well as seasoned coaches that need a refresher. This text digs into all aspects of coaching outside the Xs and Os. It especially challenges you to think about yourself and what it means to be a coach.

Excellent book. I am very happy for my choice. From the first pages I understood the value of this book. The important thing about this book is that I can open it in any page anytime and I can read whatever I am interested. I very much like the references to successful coaches. And although I am a Basketball coach , I can learn a lot of things from coaches of other sports.

A good balance between the general applied and general theoretical information... It is weak in the area of applied sports psychology...

We used this book as the basis for the Coaching Philosophies course I needed to take to keep my non-teacher certification to be asst. coach for girls varsity basketball. The book covers all of the facets of coaching, life, and developing responsible people/adults. After needing to give it back after the 8-week class was over, I wanted to have my own copy due to the vast information and "options" it contains.

Many of the techniques/theories used were easy for me to comprehend and apply. I learned them from the training and life experience I acquired in the U.S. Army. The book is set up much like a field manual with tasks, conditions and standards, which can be use as a basis for situations and cross referencing in multiple sports. I would recommend this book to anyone considering coaching and anyone who's already coaching.

This is a great book to help a coach in ANY sport. Its value is not only in reading it cover to cover...it is at GREAT reference book. You will understand HOW to train your athletes and WHY. This will make you a better coach, and your athletes better at their sport.

What an amazing author. When I got done reading the book I wanted to meet him! Fabulous content. I want to be a Caoach, and I had to by this for school. There was, however a huge problem with the shipping and delivery. The book took awhile to arrive and by the time it did, it stank, if what I'm not sure? Did gasoline spill all over it? I doubt it, because it was everywhere and not on the box. My guess was that it was stored in a meth lab or some warehouse. It was so nasty. It have me a headache and I'm not super sensitive. I aired it out in the sun and fresh air over a period of 3 months, meticulously turning each page every few days, and smelling each page to ensure the smell was gone. It was disgusting. If the seller contacted me now, I would not even accept a replacement; the next would probably be the same! I gave the book 3 stars for its content only.

This is a great resource for anyone who coaches/ mentors/ teaches coaches. It covers a broad spectrum of issues that coaches are faced with every day and within their coaching programs regardless of whether it be little league, sunday league or international teams/ athletes you work with.

This is an actual textbook on coaching and it covers everything. The early chapters cover the foundations of coaching and things I had never considered consciously like developing a coaching philosophy and the coach's role in developing team culture, sportsmanship and character in their athletes. It has taken me quite a while to get through this book as it's quite dense with information, much of which needs time for thinking and reflection after reading it. It is a book I will read again and again throughout my coaching career.

Excellent book. Great for coaches of all levels.

It is very informational yet very bright and understandable. The book came is great shape. Delivery was good. It has helped with my studies.
