Hach 9532800 Pocket Pro+ Multi 2 Tester for pH/Cond/TDS/Salinity with Replaceable Sensor

I've had a Pocket Pro+ for over 5 years and have always thought it was a great meter, until I needed a new replacement probe. In the past I've ordered the new replacement probe no problems, place order and a few days later new probe arrives. This time I go to order a replacement and the say since I'm a "New Customer" I need to send a copy of my driver license and a photo of my Credit Card to prove I'm who I say I am. So they basically want everything necessary for identity theft.

We bought this last year for our new salt water pool. Of course, we didn't use it much over the winter. This spring, I discovered by calibrating it with solution that I use for my kitchen pH tester that it was not only wildly out of calibration but would not hold a calibration. I called technical support and they said that the probe is not expected to last more than 90 days and for 1/2 the price of a new one, I can buy a new probe. So we tested our pool using a faulty probe (we are adding a lot less acid to our pool now that we are using a variety of sources for our readings so I believe it was began giving incorrect pH readings even before the 90 days was up). I tried to continue to use it for salt readings even though pH was wrong but now even those readings are wildly inaccurate. I went from 3000ppm to 1000pm overnight. And our SWG says 3100ppm. So we are going back to old fashion strips and drops and will use a variety of methods to double check them periodically. This is a great idea but terrible execution. For over $200 it should last more than 90 days. We used it around 2 times a week. We rarely write reviews but we feel completely ripped off and want to warn others away.

Salt reading does not work at all completely screwed me over. Waited too long to return what a huge let down and bad investment. I clean pools for a living and this tool was supposed to be an upgrade from an older off brand model. I’ll be more careful buying hach ever again.

We bought 2 at the same time. One failed within two weeks after less than a dozen uses. We had to buy a third one to complete our sampling program (and not change the protocol). Not a good thing for a small nonprofit. We have been unable to negotiate with the company for relief.

The equipment does not read the pH correctly. I contacted Hach and they didn't pay attention. The conductivity is working perfectly

First, the good part. These meters are extremely accurate. I've calibrated mine and it barely drifts. Now the bad: these are the worst designed product I have ever seen. It is just baffling. There are 3 buttons for a meter that measures a half dozen things, has complex calibration, and a lot of menus. 3 buttons. I think Morse code would be less confusing. But forget that and just consider that "next measurement" and "lock screen" are the same button. Let that sink in. Everytime you want to do a measurement you have to carefully time you button presses or you waste ten seconds locking the screen. Cycling through measurements is just horrible. I'd rather get a second meter than try and do it. Then there is the menu system. Schedule an hour with the manual and notebook before you venture in there.
