A Powerful Guide for Teens (and Adults) Seeking Confidence and Growth
As an adult, I knew that I had unresolved childhood trauma to address, and I was stuck on where to start with that personal work. In my memoir, I call my path to healing 'eclectic' as I looked outside the box to see what was there that would speak to all the versions of me: the child, the post-abuse years teen, young adult and so on... The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens spoke directly to the "younger me" who lacked models for the kinds of habits Sean Covey shares in this book. It’s more than a guide for teens—it’s a valuable resource for anyone needing to go back a few steps and rebuild their confidence, especially if you’ve faced difficult circumstances early in life. I found the principles easy to follow, empowering, and incredibly effective for self-reflection. I’ve also recommended this book to young women I mentor, especially those navigating difficult relationships with their parents, to help them find their path toward authentic, confident independence. Whether you're a teen or an adult looking to reset, this book provides a solid foundation for personal growth and positive change. I recommend also purchasing the companion workbook, which is likewise very easy to follow.

My review on the book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens"
The first part of the book was Paradigms and Principles. It introduced the idea that true success comes from an “inside-out “ approach, based on deep-seated principles rather than quick fixes. It also explained that the first step is to examine and adjust your own character and mindset. The second part of the book “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens” focused on independence and self-mastry, moving from dependence to independence. The 1st habit was to be proactive, take responsibility for your life and choices, focusing on what you can control instead of reacting to external circumstances. The 2nd habit was to begin with the end in mind, define your personal and professional goals and long-term vision to ensure your actions are aligned with them. The 3rd habit was to put first things first, prioritize your commitments based on your core values, focusing on principle-centered, conscience-directed actions and effectively saying “no” to things that don’t align with your goals. The third part was public victory, to focus on teamwork, interdependence, and public success, moving from independence to interdependence. Habit 4th was to think win-win, to seek mutually beneficial solutions in all human interactions to foster cooperation and positive outcomes for everyone involved. Habit 5th was to seek first to understand, then to be understood. This means to practice empathetic listening to understand the other person’s perspective before trying to make your own point. The 6th habit was to synergize, it was to leverage the diverse perspectives and strengths of a team to create outcomes that are greater than the sum of individual efforts, leading to innovative solutions. The last part of the book was the renewal. It focused on maintaining and improving yourself to stay effective over the long term. The 7th and last habit in the book was sharpening the saw, it said to continuously renew yourself in four areas, physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual, to maintain a balanced and effective life. My overall thoughts on this book is that it is a good book for teenagers to read. It can help teenagers through a lot of situations in life. I liked that it gave advice and stories of other people or examples so you could get a better understanding of some things. The advice helps so you know how to achieve a goal or do something. The book “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens” has helped me through different situations in life. It made me realize things that I didn’t realize before I read the book. It helped me achieve goals. It reminded me to have a good mind-set before anything. It helped me to realize that I need to take responsibility in anything I do or say. It also taught me to focus on my goals.

Beneficial to Overall Happiness
Originally, it was intended as a gift for a young niece. I found this read enjoyable & feel the messages provide enrichment to any age group. I’ve now sent another copy to a young adult. I did add notes to some pages: - When discussing dieting and exercise I wrote in that the purpose of diet and exercise is healthy eating and lifestyle rather than appearance. - Another reviewer shared that an anecdote about racism is, perhaps, outdated. I realize that this is a sensitive subject, especially with current events, that has many different perspectives. This is a reason that this anecdote is relevant and a good opening to essential discussion. Here, I wrote in: Social injustices exist. Oppression is currently happening. Discrimination is real and grievances are valid. People are free to communicate about these experiences and should be able to do so safely. For those who choose to create positive change: • Listen without judgment • Try to understand the struggles of others • Be aware that some people may be suffering The point of this passage is the idea that, “I don’t like being discriminated against, so now I get act like a discriminator,” does not show good character and hinders social and personal growth rather than aids progression. Again, this is my opinion pertaining to this particular passage. You are entitled to disagree. I’m simply suggesting that you may write in your own thoughts expanding on this subject and have a healthy discussion. - Before a few paragraphs discussing overcoming sexual abuse I wrote in: * Sensitive Subject Please prepare mentally before proceeding to read about the topic of sexual abuse. Be aware of how this may affect you. The messages and activities in this book will add to a solid foundation for anyone.

I'm an 18 year old girl from Germany and when I first heard about this book, I couldn't believe how many teens from all over the world praised the "7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens". I thought: Why not give it a try? As I held the book in my hand, I couldn't help but wonder about the many lovely details in it: the cartoons (that make you laugh AND think), the quotes from successful achievers (e.g. Sir Edmund Hillary, Mark Twain, Martin Luther King and much more) and the stories from teens that are my age and struggle with the same problems and issues I did- all that inspired me to live a better life and try to apply the 7 habits to my everyday life. What I also liked is Sean Covey's writing style: it's funny, inspirational, motivating and moving! It makes you want to change your life and be a better person! I highly recommend this book to any teenager, whether 14 or 19 years old, whether from Africa or from Asia, whether boy or girl! It's a must-read! :-)
