Comparisons are insulting. Rodriguez overshadows Dylan
by a mile. Regardless, both Rodriguez and Dylan are unique as is Tom Waits and Aaron Neville, 2 other favorites of mine. I love this guy. He's so much more than a singer. He's a prophet, a step back to my youth, a fantasy lover. The reason I gave this collection only 4 stars vs. 5 is that I had certain expectations. I have heard many of these songs before and they're different on the CD. Less engaging. However, this version of Sugar Man was mixed or whatever to sound as if it's in a dark hiding place. I liked this a lot. There was a supernatural quality to it. I wish I knew Rodriguez when. Don't pass this opportunity by.

Hey 60’s-70’s fan. YOU need to hear this music!
If you are a fan of music from the 1960’s and early 1970’s, and you don’t know who this is, you are missing out on someone I consider to be the greatest unknown of that era. I learned about Rodriguez after watching the documentary “Searching for Sugarman”, and this story truly captured me. The music is phenomenal and as a fan I feel that I was temporarily robbed of some true legacy stuff, much like all the music that Morrison, Joplin and Hendrix never got to create.Spoiler alert: after I found out he wasn’t dead and was actually playing to audiences again Mw wife booked us a trip out to LA (from Boston) just to see him perform.

Great listening
Had read about this artist a few years ago and finally watched the movie about him on Netflix. I enjoyed it much and have purchased both his CDs. Live the flavor of his music style. Takes me back to the sixties. Lyrics are good as well and appropriate during that era. Really enjoy both CDs. I also bought the video.

A great artist, some great songs but poorly mixed and heavily overproduced.
The reason his albums were not a hit is because the songs on it were heaverly overproduced and poorly mixed. Too many strings, flutes and horns. There are some wonderful songs that lay within his albums, it would be great if the original tapes could be remastered and allow his songs to blossom. Sugarman the 1st track for instance should have been a hit, but the strings are so overwhelming it just drowns over the entire song. I had to turn the volume down, and I normally like my music load.

You need to listen to this
I bought this CD after watching the documentary "Searching for Sugar Man". Rodriguez is a phenomenal lyricyst; touching, sharp and insightful. His songs are as relevant today as they were 40 years ago.

Good pressing
Quality record with good bass and clarity of treble. Thanks for making Sixto sound even better at a good price. This was my treat of my collection.

Superb Folk Protest Album
It's not just the lyrics that make you listen but in many cases the melodies also demonstrate a good musical knowledge. It's such a shame that because of some inate racism - Rodriguez was half-mexican - he didn't achieve the the type of world-wide fame and financial success Dylan had. Make no mistake, this bloke was as good....actually, I'm going to say better than Bob but unfortunatley it was bizarrely only really Australia and South Africa that gave him the recognition he deserved. Watch the documentary Sugarman and prepare to be astonished by this humble man's journey.Listen to this album and you'll find yourself putting it on the turntable regualrly.

Between life and death ......
This book is set in a time between life and death. I quite enjoyed it but it was very similar to a book that I read recently and enjoyed more - 10 minutes and 38 seconds in this strange world. Also it was a bit like Sliding Doors.Still a clever idea.Maybe it was just unlucky timing on my part.
