First off, I am terrible at hand sharpening chains. With this tool, I can get a sharp chain in just a few minutes. The addition of the flat file in conjuction with the round files makes this tool effective on both the teeth and the drag (I think most call them rakers - or more accurately - depth gauges). Further, this is super easy to use! Make sure to get the correct tool for your particular needs - check your saw bar for the chain pitch information and order accordingly.

Outstanding product. Delivered on time. Worked as advertised; it took less than 5 min to sharpen my quite dull chain. After that, I cut through a 4” log in under 5 seconds as a test. This sharpener will pay for itself in a couple of sharpenings.

I have one of these for my 325 chain, i bought it at the same time i bought my new saw at the Stihl dealer. I have not received this one yet but I assume it will work just like the one I already own. I bought this Stihl brand 2-in-1 sharpener because I know it works the way it was designed to. I do not know if the other less expensive brands do the job that this one does? This uses 2 round files and 1 flat file. It will only go together 1 way correctly so if the opening end wont close easily and neatly than you got a file in the wrong way. The instructions wont tell you in the detail that I am right now. It took me about 15 minutes to figure it out the 1st time. When I get this new one from Amazon it will take me less than 1 minute to put it together and use it. Once you get it right you are a journeyman and will be able to show your friends how easily and great it works. Using it, it can set on your chain 4 different ways but only 1 way will be correct. It sharpens the teeth and will also lower the raker to the right height at the same time. This works for me! Without this wonderful tool you must lower the raker in a 2nd step. I clamp my bar (and saw) in a vice at home so this works easily. If I needed to resharpen using this tool while sitting on my tailgate out in the forest, (or on a log) im certain that I will be glad that i had this tool instead of a cheap off brand sharpener. I have already recommended this to more than 1 friend. The bench-vice is the easy way so do your best to get a vice for your home workshop or garage. I use a 4" good quality brand vice, a 6" might even be more secure. Another good piece of advise is order a new spare chain when you order this. That way you have 2 sharp chains when you head out AND you can sharpen BOTH when you get home in the warmth of your home work shop. This tool is only for a 3/8 P" chain. I had to buy another separate tool for my 325 chain. I hope that this will help someone.

If you own a Stihl saw this is a must. Just make sure you get the right size for your chain. There are 3 different sizes.

I have to admit that I don’t have a lot of experience sharpening chainsaw chains, but that might also be the beauty of this tool. I followed the instructions and sharpened the blades on one side of the chain with about 3 strokes each. Once I’d made it all the way around, I did the other side. This tool makes maintaining the proper angle easy and it simultaneously knocks down the depth gauges while sharpening. The seasoned veteran may think this overkill and suggest you need nothing more than a round file. While likely true, this tool nets you results as if it was sharpened by someone much more experienced, without the time commitment and learning curve. Easy to use, effective and not outlandishly expensive. It’s a win. I definitely recommend it.

I have always agreed that the sharpest a chain will ever be is when it is brand new. The currant chain on the saw was new and now has been sharpened with this tool 3 times and I cant tell the difference between the first time I used it the new chain, and now. So easy to use, and great results (so far)

This simple but clever tool makes chain saw sharpening very easy and the results are amazing. It is simple to use and it only takes a few minutes to sharpen a chain. It is all set up for perfect cutting angles and sharpens the teeth and reduces the rakers at the same time. You go around once for right-sloped teeth, flip the sharpener over and go around again for the left-sloped teeth. Highly recommended.
