Item as advertised, Starrett is a great company for percision measuring. Use it all the time when I machine counter boars.

I'm not a machinist by any means. But I'm a diesel mechanic that more than occasionally has to machine cylinder counterbores (aka cut blocks). This is the best depth mic I have found for measuring liner counterbores. I was using the starret 2.5" depth mic at first and it was kind of ok. But I've found the half base depth mic is the way to go. It is much easier to handle and I've found the measurements are more repeatable due to the much broader base. I will definitely use this mic and only this mic for measuring liner counterbores from now on.

The lock seems to randomly rub the stem. This leads to inaccurate measurements at times. Seems like a second or less quality version. My other Sterrett micrometers are of a much better quality.

Replaced a Depth Gage that was dropped and no longer usable.

What can I say? When you buy something and immediately put it to use without anything remarkable or noticeable happening, that may seem a bit dull and not worth commentary. But with measuring tools, I think that's exactly what you want. Expectations met. 5 Stars.

Great super-accurate counterpart to the depth gauge from my mic calipers. Holds square much better,and at least at 1" depth or less, is much stiffer, for accuracy.

I never got a 0" pin and it's a 0"-3" depth mic, so it's mostly useless without it.
