cute, but........
This was a cute book, but had a few issues my 6 and 4 year old picked up on. First, God in this book looks nothing like the typical everyday depiction. In fact, he almost looks like the pringles guy (white hair, glasses )! My kids were VERY confused by this. Also, now this may be an "our family" thing, but I always told my kids that animals go to the same heaven as we do. In this book they talk about how pets go to separate heaven. My kids were not happy about that and in fact made them more upset about our dog dying because now they think we are never seeing him again! I should of read the book first.

A must share book
I was introduced to Dog Heaven by a friend who gifted me with a copy after the passing of my beloved dog, Wolfgang. I have since given many copies to friends who have, unfortunately, experienced the same loss because it touches you deeply and even though it brings a tear to the eye, the ache is lessened. I now keep several copies on hand because in doing canine rescue, loss of a best friend is always a risk and Rylant's book is the best way I know to show compassion to dog owners. Cat Heaven is also a wonderful book and I strongly recommend them both.

Wonderful gift upon the loss of a beloved dog.
When my dog of 22 years went to doggie heaven last year it seemed nothing/no one could console me. Best companion I've ever parented and I've parented many dogs during my life. A friend sent me this book a few months later, just when I was feeling I couldn't' keep it together much longer. I started crying as soon as I saw the title and wept through each page. While it was hard to get through because of the weeping, once I finally finished it, I felt better. It was cathartic. I still shed tears now and then, however I keep this book in a place I pass by daily and it brings me joyful remembrance. I have given 7 people a copy of it since, knowing the sorrow they were feeling for the loss of their beloved family member and in each case it was good for them as well. I think this is a good book to pick up if you have young children and an aging dog ... it's a great teaching tool when that time arrives. I'm so grateful my friend remembered me in such a loving way by sending me this book. Will always treasure it and the loving memories it invokes.

For children and adults alike
I've purchased three copies of this book over the years, one for myself, then one for my sister's family, and finally, a second for myself as I frequently loaned it to coworkers when needed, and at one point it was never returned. This is a sweet, gentle, lovely book that is not only for children, but for adults as well. Adults who are sure to shed more than a tear or two.By the way, I think reviewer "Lauren", who was not happy that the book upset her children due to it being about a separate "dog heaven" may have missed some important details that could possibly have helped her family feel better. This Dog Heaven is a place where dogs "can stay as long as they like", which may mean "forever". There are ducks, and geese. Importantly, Dog Heaven is filled with children. And one day, the dogs will be there "at the door" when "old friends show up". Meaning...us. And together, away we will fly.

It made me smile and feel better knowing my Dinner is happy
I got this book 3 weeks after my pug, Dinner, crossed the Bridge. It's simple and comforting. It made me smile and feel better knowing my Dinner is happy. Highly recommend this sweet book.

Dog's go to a place where they can run and play and explore and get pets, it is THE BEST PLACE...!!
[FORGOT TO MENTION: This is a kid's book, gentle wording, illustrations; or those young of heart / child-like.[I bought this book for me, even though my dogs are older (approaching 20 years old), but haven't passed on yet. [The last cat had just passed and I originally bought the 'cat version']. I didn't want to be dwelling on "not hearing their paws on the hardwood floor", " not having that extra weight / warmth on the bed", " not getting ANY greeting upon arriving at home"...the things the dogs are missing out on now that they are slowing down, and, not walking nearly as much, not able to hear, see....SPOILER In heaven, someone is waiting to greet them, they get to run, play, explore, get pets, AND TREATS....AND, if they miss their human(s), they can come back and visit....(though they won't be seen)...It soothed my fears about my loss, and their coming loss of contact with those who they love and are friends with them...

The Beauty of this Book Makes Me Cry Every Time I Read It
My parents used to read this to me as a child, and getting to give it to a friend was so meaningful. It made me cry to re-read especially after the loss of my dog back in 2016. It may not be the best book if you aren't comfortable with usage and imagery of "God" but even as someone who isn't religious, I find this book beautiful, loving, and definitely memorable.

All about fictional dog heaven.
This book is about the fantasy of Dog’s running and playing happily in dog heaven. It could offer comfort to a distraught child in getting them to believe the dog is happy playing in heaven With other dogs. No mention of reality, the sadness of grief, that it’s ok to cry, that you will feel better in time etc. It may serve a purpose just to help the child feel better. For very young children.

Absolutely shocking condition..
Awful condition..several old stickers over the covers and spine..corners and pages curled and dirty. Inside has essage saying book belongs to Charlotte ...I wouldn't put this book in a local charity shop let alone sell as a gift to give to a grieving child.. I'm absolutely shocked when I've paid the better part of £10 including postage!! Never again

Helped my son with losing pet dog
I bought this for my 6 (just about 7) year old son after the family dog died of old age. He loved the colourful pictures and God making dog biscuits and thought our dog was having the most wonderful time playing. Definitely not for non-religious people - I am not religious but my son is a bit,it was very Christian focused - see the title - but our son loved it. Beautiful quality of book also.

Dog Heaven
I bought Dog Heaven for my seven year old boy who had just had his dog die. It was so uplifting to read for both of us. It definitely explained in an uncomplicated way how dogs are looked after by God and how they are happy and safe in heaven.
