Angular Development with TypeScript 2nd Edition

Basically anyone who writes code needs to consult online resources. Angular is the new(ish) big thing in anything web related. So if you want to be relevant or even just do your job, you'll probably need to learn Angular. [This is not tragic because 1)the modular design is nice (like a Linux philosophy for webdev) and 2) it's made and supported by Google - so it'll have some staying power.TL;DR - of course you'll use online resources - but this book is clearer and more to the point. Understanding the underlying organization of Angular and using the author's pointers will really help to get you going in a fast, efficient, and actually Angular (not Kludgey) way.

He writes at a developer to developer level. Straight to the point. His style is entertaining and thoughtful. I am halfway through it and enjoying every example. Thank you Yakov and Anton.

What can you say about a textbook that teaches you programming? It’s not a hard to read text which is great. Others I have read left me confused and annoyed because the authors write for an audience of experienced programmers instead of those still learning. This text also has an on going project throughout to put the lessons into practice.

This new second edition is a solid improvement over the first edition, which appeared several years ago. "Writing the first edition of this book was difficult," the authors admit, "because we started with early alpha versions of the framework, which were changing quite frequently. Now, the framework is stable, and after three years of real-world development and running countless workshops, we understand and can explain the Angular framework a lot better."I like how this new edition keeps the high-level lectures somewhat short and doesn't try to explain everything up front. It is not easy to explain Angular and TypeScript to those just starting to try it--you have to just jump in and start using it. Fortunately, this 2nd edition moves quickly to creating apps using Angular CLI and then follows a good structure as more modules of a project are introduced, explained and enhanced, and testing with Jasmine and other tools is introduced. Of course, some readers may need to read some of the book's appendices before they tackle the main text. (The appendices cover ECMAScript, TypeScript, npm and RxJS.) All code examples in the book have been tested with Angular 6 and "should work with Angular 7," the authors indicate. Running Angular 7, I tested a few of the code examples and found a couple of places where a minor deprecation or text change had occurred since Angular 6, but I encountered nothing show-stopping. (And those who buy the book have access to a support forum.)It has been a couple of years since I worked with Angular and TypeScript, using the previous edition of this book as one of my guides. I am pleased with how this well-written, well-structured and well-tested new edition is helping me get back up to speed with Angular and TypeScript.My thanks to Manning Books for providing an advance reading copy for review.

Reading quite a few books on Angular, this is is easily the best one as of 2020. It is concise, but contains most of the practically useful details presented in a logical and simple fashion. It is not to simplistic and repetitive as other (even highly rated) books out there. The code examples continue this trend: clear, simple, but not too trivial. Also some practically useful introductions are made for 3rd party tools. And very good to have a chapter on ngrx.It is my go to book if I forgot some basic feature and need a refresher and an example.Big thanks to the author!

I've given up on this book. It is outdated. The code samples are incomplete for later versions of angular. The text has not been updated. It isn't useful for current versions of angular. Don't waste your time or money.
