Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort to HDTV Cable in Black 6 Feet - Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 Port Compatible

This cable worked great for 2months. Then it died. The reason it died is interesting. If you look at the MDP end of the cable you will notice a small, slippery plug. We all know that you should pull the plug and not the cable, because the cable will wear and break. Now try this with your new Mini DisplayPort cable: Unplug it. What you will discover is that your computer probably has lots of other wires going into it so it's actually really hard to get your fingers on the plug to pull it out of your computer. And you will probably find your fingers slipping off the shiny slippery plug onto the nice, pullable cable. Ouch! And we all now what happens if you keep doing that--the cable breaks and you toss the cable and get mad and buy a new one from another brand that you now claim as being better than "THAT bad brand". The problem is not the brand. It's the design of the plug. Short slippery plugs don't work. All brands have them. Hmm. Is this a design conspiracy? Don't worry about that. It's not important. On ANY of these cables, regardless of brand, just wrap the nice shiny plug in a big wad of blue tape or duct tape that you can pull instead of the cable. And you will now get your money's worth. So yes, I replaced my Cable Matters with another branch, just because, but I could have bought another Cable Matters and wrapped it in tape as well. Since I had to put on the duct tape, I give this design two stars, because it will fail. Duct tape, live long and prosper.... ================================= 10/24/2013 update ================== Surprisingly, Cable Matters reached out to me with an offer of a replacement and a request for the damaged product. Sadly, I had thrown away the defective cable and could not return it. In this age of corporate indifference, a personal email counts a lot and I will update my review to higher stars upon receipt of the replacement cable. There is a backstory here about why I bought the original Cable Matters cable. It started when I bought a nice DELL monitor a few months back. And the DELL monitor came with an MDP cable that...failed within in a week. Although I'm annoyed at DELL for cutting corners, I doubt they would care about my experience, since they are going for cheap accessories to their very fine monitor. Annoyed at the waste, I decided to go for cable quality and splurged on a Cable Matters cable. It worked great. I was happy. And then after 2 months it died. The svelte Cable Matters cable was clearly manufactured with quality and it did last 8x longer than the DELL horror cable. But it failed after use. That's what prompted me to think about whether this might be a design/use issue. I do expect cables to last longer than batteries, hence the review. In the meantime, as I look at the two replacement cables I bought, I see that one of the replacement cables is in fact a Cable Matters cable (!). And yes, I taped the replacement exactly as described above to minimize cable wear. I expect it to last a lot longer. Taped. ======================= 10/29/14==================== Cable Matters sent me a new cable that I got today. I now have three replacement cables and am well prepared for future cable death. However, I will tape them all to prevent failure. I am also giving my experience of this product 5 stars based on the superb response from Cable Matters support. Great support costs a lot and it's clear that Cable Matters cares enough to do what they can to keep their customers.

Purchased this cable in 2014 for connecting to a large TV. Worked just fine. Recently, the TV reported no video link..Thought it was the laptop (a very old Mac 13" laptop). Then found the same problem with a newer 15" Mac Pro laptop. Got suspicious, so tested the cable by replacing a working Cable Matters cable connection with this suspect cable, found it would not work. Problem identified. Contacted Cable Matters last week (April of 2016). They acknowledged the problem, shipped me a replacement at not charge, and included a return shipping label so I could send back the defective cable. One week turnaround. Replacement cable works just fine, and I'm delighted with the customer care. Perhaps this should be a 3 or 4 star product rating, since the original cable did fail in less than 2 years, but the excellent responsiveness more than a year after purchase warrants the 5th star. Update July 21, 2016. Thought the cable had failed again, and once again, Cable Matters stepped up to ship a no-charge replacement cable after I had contacted them. Ultimately, it turned out that the problem was in a coupling I had in the chain, not the cable, so CM was wrongly identified with a faulty product. My fault - not theirs. All the same, the customer service rep was very responsive, gracious and cooperative, and I must say beyond any reproach. I'm sticking with this vendor for the long run for my cabling needs.

I am writing this in part to review the cable itself (spoiler: it works just fine), but also to inform other shoppers who might be confused as to exactly what they need. First of all, the cable itself is great. It is well-constructed, and it does its job more than adequately. I have tested it with my MS Surface Pro 4 (without the Surface Pro Dock - more on this below...) as well as with a couple of different mini DisplayPort-enabled laptops and HDMI-equipped monitors and/or TVs. All of the PCs were running either Windows 7 or Windows 10, and all performed more than adequately. I would not hesitate to recommend this cable, if what you need is the ability to simply attach an external HDMI equipped display (monitor or TV) to your device. Now if you are a Surface Pro 4 owner, and you use the new MS Surface Pro Dock, you might want to pay attention and read on. I originally bought 2 of these cables in order to connect 2 HDMI-enabled Dell monitors to my Surface Pro 4 via the Dock's 2x Mini DisplayPort connections. I found that this was not an adequate solution for my purpose. Note that this has nothing to do with the cable (again, it's great!). The problem is, for whatever reason the DisplayPort jacks on the Surface Pro dock are _not_ the same as the DisplayPort jack on the Surface Pro tablet itself. Using this cable with the tablet's onboard DP port worked great; however, using the cable with the Dock DP ports (either one or both at the same time) was extremely problematic. It might or might not detect one or both (or neither) displays, it would intermittently drop (and sometimes reconnect) the external displays, and I had a lot of flicker problems using the MiniDP-HDMI cable(s). And on the rare occasion that I got everything connected, detected, and configured to my liking, it would soon exhibit problems and I was back to square one. Again, this had nothing to do with the cable. I am actually keeping the cable for times when I am traveling and want to plug into a HDMI-enabled display or projector. But I had to switch to Active DisplayPort to DVI adapters for connecting & using my external displays with the Surface Pro dock. Unless I am mistaken, this cable is a passive rather than active adapter, and apparently that makes a _big_ difference with the Surface Pro Dock DP connectors (though it doesn't appear to matter if you are plugging into the tablet itself - which is weird...). I don't know the technical specifics of why this is, all I can say is that if you are looking for a solution for the Surface Pro 4 tablet, with the Surface Pro Dock, to use 1 or 2 external displays alongside your tablet while docked, this is not the cable you are looking for. Look for an Active DisplayPort-to-whatever (DVI/VGA/HDMI) cable. That will work much better for you. But - if you just want a cable to plug into the Surface Pro tablet DisplayPort connection (not the Dock) to have an external display, then this should work great. Just wanted to clarify, and hopefully save someone else some confusion & time. Thanks!

I bought the cable for a monitor, what more can I say. No problems at all, it plugs in nicely and plugs out nicely too. I see no quality defects and with the cable just sitting there behind my computer I can't see any wear and tear being a problem unless you are constantly removing the cable.

Everything about this cable is first class. The packaging has a phenomenal feel of quality, the cable ends are sturdy and glossy, and the performance is stellar. It's more than flexible enough, while keeping a certain ruggedness. I can see keeping this gem around for awhile. 10/10 would buy again.

Das Kabel kann ich uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen. Ich benutze es um mein MacBook Pro an den Fernseher anzuschließen. Hatte noch keine Bildprobleme oder ähnliches. Verarbeitung sieht gut aus soweit ich das beurteilen kann. Es wackelt nichts. Ich benutze das Kabel ausschließlich für das Bild. Für den Ton benutze ich ein separates optisches Kabel welches am Receiver hängt. Von daher kann ich dazu nichts sagen. Ich würde es wieder kaufen!
