Call me nostalgic but I recently dug out my Technics FM/MW/LW separates tuner from the attic and wanted to see if it could receive anything. Sadly though the antennas were long gone so I ordered this inexpensive FM wire antenna and AM loop antenna set. The FM aerial consists of a male F-type (old TV aerial style) connector and a length of single core wire terminated in a plastic clip. My tuner also has a male F-type connector so I thought no problem, I'll pop a female to female converter on the back. Unfortunately the male connector on the FM aerial has the same outer diameter as the female converter! In the end I had to splay the outer metal contacts apart with a pair of pliers to fit the converter, but it worked. I guess connectors have changed over the years and this isn't quite the same as the 80s tuner. The AM loop antenna is essentially a plastic frame with stand wound with a coil of wire. This terminates in a pair of bare single core wires, however again should have checked as my receiver uses a mini 2-way female connector. I ended up connecting my own connector to the bare wires which did the trick. Also the loop antenna is supplied flat and you need to fold the base plastic section and clip it in place if you want to stand the antenna up vertical on a flat surface. Performance wise, obviously don't expect amazing results from a short piece of wire with FM. However with the wire vertical I was able to pick up over a dozen stations on FM in stereo, so it did the trick. AM is a different picture although most probably due to the lack now of MW and LW stations in the UK, as well as a lot of interference from modern electronics. I did manage to pick up Radio 4 and Radio 5 and was able to turn the loop for strongest reception. So it definitely worked, but there wasn't much to receive on AM. Overall for the price this seems decent enough if you want to resurrect an old receiver. These are similar to what many receivers are supplied with, so they make a handy replacement if you've lost the original ones.

I initially had a bit of confusion about how the stand had to be folded but I soon figured it out. You bend it back through the loop and it snaps into place. The FM signal is much improved so that I now have eight stations instead of just one. With AM the LW and MW signals were not available my old Aiwa NSX-AV320 compact disc stereo system but I only really wanted the FM stations anyway. They would have been a bonus though. If I did want them then maybe a signal booster would help with that and might also increase the number of FM stations as well.

Had a stereo system left by my children, realised it had a tuner but needed an aerial. Found this and it works perfectly. Now have it in my "man cave".
