Works great but don't use this with your prize-winning guacamole
I like the concept behind the avoFresh Organic Avocado Shelf Life Powder. After all, who wouldn't want their secret recipe Guacamole to stay fresh for seven days WITHOUT browning? Well, the powder does keep the guacamole from getting brown if stored in an airtight container without too much headspace. Unfortunately, it imparts a tart and sour flavor that overpowers the avocado flavor. And it doesn't matter how much seasoning or hot sauce you add. I could see using this powder in certain situations. For example, if making a tub of guac for the potluck or picnic. Or for guacamole that you're not going to consume anytime soon. But you wouldn't want to use this stuff with your prizewinning guacamole. Not unless it gets judged by looks only.By the way, the powder consists of Ascorbic Acid and Calcium Carbonate. According to the product description, it mimics the taste of salt and lime, so "there's no need to add." I didn't notice that, but maybe it's just my taste buds. Anyway, as mentioned above, you have to keep it in an airtight container for the preservative function to work. So don't expect miracles if you set it out on the table for a while, uncovered. See the photos showing my first batch of guac with the powder added, and then the after shot one day later. The fact that the guac didn't turn brown even after only one day is impressive. I also noticed that after three days, it still looked great and actually tasted better. Go figure. This is a good product to have if you like avocados and guac.

Not useful for sliced avocado, also it changes the flavor.
This does work but not any better than citric acid or even just lemon juice. Also the description is wrong - it says "... solution to always-green, cut avocados ..." but actually it is designed for MASHED avocados, not sliced and it wants you to mash 5 avocados at once - that would be a LOT for me. Also it changes the flavor. I just wanted something to sprinkle on the cut surface of half an avocado so I could save it for later.

Since, browning of food is an oxidation process in presence of oxygen, any thing that decrease or slows down the process will delay browning of food. Traditionally lemon or lime juice (that is rich in vitamin C) would do similar reaction, so that would be a natural way of keeping avocados turning brown. This Avofresh do keep the Guac from turning brown, since it is same principle for any veggies that turn brown, we used it eggplants that turn brown after cutting. It kept them from turning brown even after 4 days. It is little expensive but can be great for using on occasions when you need to keep food look fresh for long periods.

It Helps To Have Ripe Avocados
I was eager to try this avocado shelf life powder. I love guacamole. My husband bought me two rock-hard avocados. They did not ripen until, I placed them in a paper bag with a banana. Two days later they were ripe. But I did not like the strong lemon taste. I think I will go back to buying already prepared guacamole.

Simple to use; effective; expensive for such a simple formulation
This is a generally effective and easy way to keep avocados from turning brown. It's not anything fancy or unusual, with the powder consisting of just ascorbic acid and calcium carbonate. Usage is simple: just add the powder (each pouch has 0.25 oz of powder) on up to 1.25 cups of mashed avocado and mix. You still need to store the avocado with as little air contact as possible, but the ascorbic acid/calcium carbonate mix is fairly effective in preventing it from turning brown.The only significant con for this is the price. You can get food grade powdered ascorbic acid and calcium carbonate and make your own for far less cost per use. This premixed, prepackaged option is certainly more convenient, but there's a high price for that convenience. One star down for value, but otherwise an effective option.

It keeps quac fresh
I love it keeps my homemade guacamole looks so fresh and green. I found it taste more acid because it contains vitamin C.
