Buckwheat Cylinder Neck Pillow

I often have serious neck pain issues. It seems like I've tried every type of pillow going, and none have really worked, until this pillow. I'm pretty sure that if you don't like firm pillows you won't like this, but if, like me, you like firm support this pillow is perfect. The size is compact, which I find very helpful as it is easy to squish into the positions where I need the most support. The buckwheat does make a subdued sound when moved, but I really find that rather pleasant. This great pillow has helped relieve my neck pain substantially.

Purchased total of 4 pillows! Amazing, helps with the quality of sleep, easy to maintain, everyone in my house is loves them so much they all got their own. Helped with our grandma’s neck and shoulder pain! Highly recommend!

Nice quality cover, fresh buckwheat hulls. After adjusting the quantity of buckwheat hulls (i.e. removing some), I was able to get pretty much the perfect height and firmness I needed...finally! I've been through a lot of pillows to get to this point. That said I have two criticisms: 1) Unless your idea of appropriate for travel involves having significant space for the buckwheat hulls (it might!), I don't see how this is portable. Regardless of the amount you have it stuffed, you're constrained by that volume when packing. If you like a softer/low-profile pillow, then you'll have a much easier time packing it. If you like firmer/high-profile pillow, you're not saving any packing space by using this pillow versus a foam pillow or latex-shard pillow. For me, this doesn't really matter, but it might for you. 2) Once I removed the necessarily amount of buckwheat hulls, the pillow becomes "poofy" on the sides. In other words, when I lay my head on the pillow, my head & neck are very comfortable, however, the buckwheat hulls get pushed to opposite ends of the pillow and then billow up. You could think of them as functioning similar to ear muffs. I don't like this. Not a make-or-break deal, but personally if I could get a version of this same pillow with a smaller diameter (say 3 or 4 inches instead of 6"), this problem would be solved and I'd sleep more comfortable. Overall great pillow and I'm glad I bought it.

It's funny to read the reviews. It just proves it is impossible to please all people. I purchased the cylinder neck pillow after looking at many options. Organic cotton is important to me for pillowcases and sheets, so that was a box checked. I wanted USA made, so another box checked. This seemed a bit pricey but was cheaper than others. Also, I have spent so much money on pillows that have gone to family and been donated. I have been seeing a chiropractor for overall musculoskeletal health for many years, and most of my neck/shoulder issues seem to be pillow driven. I like the My Pillow for moldability and soft comfort, but I seem to sweat too much with that one. Not related to menopause yet. So my search needed to continue. I tried a buckwheat hull pillow many years ago, but I don't think I gave it a fair try, and it was a standard pillow shape, not a roll. My chiropractor had said that really all anyone needs is a neck roll to give full neck support, so I thought it was time to go that route. First night, I kept the full stuffing in, which was packed full. I woke up with a kink in my left neck and pain across my shoulders, and I new it was because it was too packed full for me. Essentially no moldability. The second night I removed appox. 4 cups of filling, and it seems perfect. I don't recall waking up at all to move, and I sleep left side or back 100% of time, and usually I'm aware of every move I make all night because of pain or sweating. So, having a full nights sleep without realizing I rolled over is a great thing, plus I didn't awake at any time sweaty. I think compared to a regular pillow this one will be great for travel. I will find out in a week when I throw it in my bag. I'm glad that I can customize with removal of the hulls, and if it collapses a bit, I can add them back. These hulls specifically are really nice quality, no smell, and no bugs that I saw (and hope I don't). The case the hulls are in is quality made thinker material and the zipper pull is covered. I did purchase the optional case made to fit this for $16. I'm glad I did. Very nicely made, heavier quality material that washed and hang to dry beautifully, so I will wash it with every sheet change so very frequently.

I got this pillow to compare with a standard rectangular shaped buckwheat pillow, and this one is the one I sleep on every night. It's nice and firm but has enough give that it keeps my head and neck at a comfortable angle. I dont think I had ever known what it was like to completely relax the head and neck muscles until this pillow, either. Something about the way it holds the bottom of my skull where it meets the neck is So Comfortable, and yet also makes my muscles relax while stretching them. It's so effective that I use this pillow as a muscle roller for my back as well, so not only am I sleeping better, but my neck pain is no longer an issue and my back pain is easily fixed. Truly a little miracle pillow. Also I bought one for my sister and she bought me a second one, so it was good enough that I now sleep with TWO of these little guys, one for the neck and one to hold. Next time I travel anywhere, I'm bringing one with me. Heck, I might even get a third as a lumbar support pillow for sitting on the couch

I bought this late 2021 and I am happy with it... I notice that helps with MY neck anyway. I got another one from another seller in early '24. I bought the second one when I bought additional buckwheat and figured I use it for travel but find I swap them out periodically. I did get a cover and will be getting more covers as washing is a pain on the newer one (no cover). I looked at some of the negative reviews and was kind of dismayed at the harshness of those reviews. I did have to buy additional buckwheat for both and I fill them as full as I can because I am not a small person. Saw in the negative reviews that some complained about the ear pain when you side sleep and I would suggest this is not a side sleeper pillow. It can be but put it under your neck not your ear. That said, I have found similar relief on my neck when I fold a regular pillow just right to create some traction on my neck. The relief for me is when the pillow creates some separation or "stretching" if you will, in my neck. I suppose it is not for everyone. Again Happy with it.

I have arthritic neck issues and have woken up periodically with a "crick" in my neck over the past several years that would involve the muscles in my shoulders and upper back, cause headaches, and last for days or a week or two. The nurse practitioner at my PCP's office recently recommended I get a firm neck pillow, and I settled on this one and have not regretted it so far. I've been using it for about two weeks now, and have not woken up with any crick-in-the-neck issues yet. In fact, this is probably the best my neck as felt in a while. I did find that the hulls in the pillow settled after the first couple of nights and flattened a bit too much for my comfort, so I added more hulls (I fit 4 more cups in there!), and now it's at a good firmness and maintains a consistent height for me, with only a little "give." Also, I alternate between back-sleeping and side-sleeping throughout the night, and have had no problems with either on this pillow. The only problem I've had is with wearing ear plugs and side-sleeping: I wear ear plugs to drown out my husband's snoring, and a few nights of laying with my plugged ears against the pillow starting causing some pain and discomfort in my ear canals. I've had to get used to sleeping more on my back or in a part-back/part-side position. I think the ear plug problem would exist with any very firm pillow, so this is not a complaint about this particular brand. Finally, I did cover this pillow with a zippered allergy cover (I have dust mite allergies) and a regular pillow case by putting the pillow in the bottom of a case and then rolling it up in the remaining fabric of the case. This has worked fine, although I may try sewing myself some pillow cases for this pillow sometime. Overall, I'm very happy with this product. Hope this helps!

This was my first experience with Buckwheat pillows; The comfort was good but if you ever want to wash the cover it is a nightmare. I have always used a small roll pillow for neck support at night and I figured I would try a new type this time. The support was great and you could add or remove firmness by removing the husks inside the pillow. My main complaint is that if you sweat at night like I do, washing the case is a total nightmare. I only tried it once because it isn't worth the nightmare to remove and then re-add the husks to the case. It will make a mess and takes more time than you would think. Another downside is that the husks do break down over time so after a few months the initial firmness you felt dissipates more and more with every night. If you buy new pillows often I would recommend this to you. If you want something that is going to last more than 6 months I would look for something else.
