Fantastic book. As a "Qurancentric" Muslim (rejecting hadith as a source of religious authority), I found Lang's approach to be methodical, genuine, deep, and common-sensical. He has obviously thought these matters through and researched them in depth. What I liked most was how he fairly described the differing viewpoints, voiced his preference, but ultimately let the reader decide which argument was most convincing. Despite not caring for hadith to expound on the Quran, I appreciated his approach to hadith and his effort to reconcile (or explain away) some of them with the Quran. I also enjoyed very much his discussion of wife-beating and was pleasantly surprised (for once) to not see the regular "beat with a toothpick" inane apologetics I am used to (which still leaves much to be desired in the way of combating male domination). Overall, superb read. I just got the book today and can't take my eyes off of it.

An outlook altering book.
This book is one of the few books that caught my attention from the first page and wouldn't let go until I reached the last.Dr.Lang's telling of how he became a mulsim and the rol of the Holy Quran in his reversion. His discussion of the issues and challenges facing the Islamic community today, and his responses to the detractors of Islam are fascinating. His thought process changed my outlook on religion and it showed the weekness of our the American Islamic society due to it's ingulfment in traditions that are unrelated to Islam.Personally, I disagree with Dr.Lang on some issues but this doesn't mean that I don't have the greatest respect for him and his struggle to help other Muslims. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone, Muslim or not, who is looking for an rational and religous outlook on our World.

A must read for anyone who wants to know why "evil" exists...
Not only a great book about why evil exists, but also it provides a unique perspective on the issues Muslims all over the world struggle with. I might have purchased at least 10 of these books and passed onto other people as gifts.

Wow. Dr. Lang hits all the issues 2nd and 3rd generation Muslim Americans struggle with. While he does not offer many clear cut solutions (who could?), he discusses how Islam developed in history and how this history gives nuances to the American Muslim experience. So worth it.

A must for muslims
Great book...I am a Muslim by birth and still I find Dr. Lang is touching a lot of my fears and questions through his great well written book. I recommend this book for every Muslim new old or by inheritance , first or second Muslim generation...I confirm his complaint that Most of his fears and questions are not discussed in the muslim community....Hope someday muslim will listen and try to solve their issues with open minds....

Great book!
This is a great book - I think the author has an excellent writing style. I won't summarize it, as others have done so already. As an American Muslim convert, I could relate to many things in this book very well. It was nice to see that I'm not alone in some of my feelings regarding the Muslim community here in the U.S.

‘Losing my religion, a call for help'
After ‘Struggling to surrender’, and ‘Even Angels Ask’, Dr Jeffrey Lang, a math professor at University of Kansas, converted to Islam, wrote ‘Losing my religion, a call for help’, a true reference on the newly- converted to Islam in North America. This work responds to the many questions addressed to the author by Muslims, either American homegrown or immigrants. The author addresses many difficult questions like reliability of hadith, influence of the culture of the Middle East on the treatment of women in mosques in the United States, converts abandoning their new religion, etc. This courageous book does not elude any delicate issue and combines the use of scientific reasoning to approach the Qur’an discourse with an impressive list of bibliographic references. This work will be a reference book not only for people converted to Islam, but also for all Muslims, including scholars interested in Islam.
