Valuable scales and arpeggios
This scale book is helpful in building knowledge, flexibility, and skill. It’s a very worthwhile classic on piano technique for beginners and more advanced piano players.

A great resource
A standard resource for all up and comping pianists who want to master their scales and arpeggios in many different formats. I recommend it for study and for practice ideas.

Scale and Arpeggio Manual:
This was intended as a warm up, the usual scales and arpeggios. Turns out this is a more than just a warm up and quite a comprehensive drill on chromatic scales, arpeggios in dominant 7ths and diminished 7ths, scales in double 3rds and 6ths, chromatic doubles etc.

Purchase through Amazon was great, book itself was good.
I love the format of Schirmer's library, of which I have several in my collection, so really I can't go wrong there. I chose to give four instead of five stars because of Macfarren's exercise choices. He begins with C major, two hands running parallel, followed by C running in opposite directions, then C with both hands separated by a sixth, then a third, one running parallel and one running in opposite directions. For me, the important thing is to learn the scale itself, and since there are twelve major scales it would make sense to do this before getting into these various exercises. To do this with this book you have to do a lot of skipping around. Maybe not the best way to learn scales for the beginner.

A Must-Have Piano Educational Resource
This is like torture to some extent, but it is a serious manual of scales and appregios that will get a new student to working around the keyboard and provide plenty of challenge to an accomplished pianist.
