Found it very useful
We bought a new freezer for the basement and were not convinced the temperature was correct. Looking at different options we decided to try this thermometer to verify. It seems to be accurate and the color coding is helpful. We also used it to check out the fridge/ freezer in the kitchen and it showed we could adjust our freezer temperature slightly. We might get a slight power saving over time as a result. The unit is simple but sturdy. Nice stainless finish and the hook is useful as you can hang it from the underside of a shelf and not affect storage space. It won't tell you if you lost power but is a good indicator of temperature and at the $6 we paid for it, with free shipping for orders over $25, it was excellent value and peace of mind.

Great for checking temps on old/cheaper refrigerators
Bought two of these to check the temps on the fridge we have in our garage. It's a cheaper refrigerator that uses dials to control temperatures rather than being able to set it to a specific digital temperature. One is hanging in the fridge and other in the freezer. Nice size -- big enough to read easily, but not too big to take up much space. I really like the color layout on the dial as well. Accuracy seems pretty good though we have no secondary, professional way to measure. It's been VERY useful since we live in PA and experience all 4 seasons. Refrigerators in garages here are prone to vast swings in ambient temperatures which results in making tweaks to the controls especially in winter and summer months. These little gadgets make that task MUCH easier.

Works and seems accurate - color coding is very helpful
This thermometer works great so far. We have one in our fridge and one in the freezer. We had a mercury thermometer before this and I'm pretty sure it was not providing accurate readings. The color coding is super helpful since it gives you a reading at quick glance. Whenever I go in the fridge or freezer I take a quick look and know if the fridge needs adjustment or is failing. This is important for me since we just had to replace our fridge/freezer due to the pump going bad. The only way we knew it was broken was when we went to get some ice cream and discovered it was liquid. The old thermometer said the temp was fine... it was lying.

classic freezer/refridgerator thermometer
This is the classic design I was looking for, and it works just fine. I can read it without searching for my reading glasses. The seller took an unusually long time getting it to me (by Amazon standards) but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and accept that it's not usually the case. Even so, if you're in a big hurry to get this, you might want to pop over to your nearby Smart N Final and see if they have the same item there; in typical Murphy's Law fashion I found the same style for sale there, not long after I'd ordered one online.

Great Thermometer!!
I purchased two of these thermometers from Target a few years back and really liked them. Target stopped carrying them so I turned to the best shopping site ever to get a few more. The two new thermometers were exactly the same as the previous two from Target so I was very happy about that. I made sure the ones from Amazon weren't cheap fakes or rejects by placing them side by side with the Targets and they were spot on, no variance in temp.I have a garage fridge that gets a bit testy in the cold Minnesota winters so I cannot use the freezer section for about four to five months out of the year. The other seven or eight months we use it to store frozen treats and ice cream so it is critical to know when it's time to yank stuff out before it melts and spills everywhere. These thermometers do the job perfectly. The remaining two thermometers are in my house fridge and give me a constant update on temp. Throughout the year it is necessary to adjust cooling settings both in the house and garage fridges so these make that job a snap. Neither of my fridges are fancy so turning the cooling knob from three to four doesn't tell me a thing but all the guesswork is gone now.Lastly the most important and helpful part of these thermometers is the color coding. The temperature danger zone is clearly marked and makes it very easy to just glance and know you are safe. The words REF are visible in the pink section on the thermometer so you know immediately if there is a problem or not. As a restaurant manager for four years I understand the importance of proper food temperature. I would not chance my families health especially knowing I could have easily spent five or six bucks to help prevent a food borne illness. If you've ever had one you know what I mean.

Cheep, small, does the job
I hammock camp and solar cook. For both of these activities knowing the temperature is important. Though this is designed to be used in the refrigerator it works fine in the solar oven, the needle just loops around. With an oven thermometer it helps get a fine tune degree, that most oven thermometers in the same price range wont give. I prefer these metal spring thermometer to either the alcohol/mercury type, as these spring wont burst. I had a few alcohol thermometers burst in my solar ovens. Don't put them in direct flame though. The metal gets thrown out of wack and gets stuck. They are great for the throw away needs I have for them and take a beating. I prefer these over the electric type because I am not battery depended, a post oil-crash consideration.
