I wish I had this sound machine when I worked night shifts and slept in the daytime. The variable gradual volume setting is sensitive and much better than other sound machines I've used in the past. Sound Oasis Sound Machine Portable White Noise Machine 20 is very compact, lightweight and nicely styled. It's definitely portable for travel.

I love this wonderful sound machine. It has many sounds that help one sleep well. With many health issues, this helps me to fall asleep much better. There are many sound modes...and volume of course. Sounds of waves. Rain, or birds in trees or wherever...a multitude of creative sounds to help me relax at bedtime. I am thankful for this. It is also very easily transported should I need it for travel. This is my 2nd one. After nearly 9 years of using it nightly. It finally stopped working. So fortunate to find one again here on AMAZON.I AM THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL to have another one and it is a wonderful sound piece of equipment. Love it!!

Overall I really like this unit. I had tried several other units from various companies before settling on this one. The sound is amazing, the other units I tried sounded tinny and unrealistic. It also makes a great portable Bluetooth speaker however the main reason I bought it was for the sleep machine noise built in. It has a great selection of sleep sounds preloaded on the removable micro-SD card which can be removed and your own card inserted for personal sound. It's easy to use and set up and looks sleek.The main criticism I have are the controls which is why I only gave it a 4 star rating. They look good but if you're using this as a sleep machine they need to be more user friendly in the dark. On the top there is no gap between the various function bars. For example the volume bar and the sounds bar are end to end to each other. This makes it very difficult to make adjustments to either one in the dark without accidentally hitting the other one. Who wants to have to turn on a light when your trying to get to sleep? The power button on the back is also annoying as it's so small you almost need a pointed object if you don't have finger nails to turn it on and off.It would be nice if there was a way to know for sure which sound you're listening to. It does come with a list of the sounds but when you in the middle of scrolling through them you can easily get lost on where you are. Luckily it does have a forward and reverse toggle switch so you don't have to go all the way through the list each time.So in conclusion if you don't mind the control setup this is one of the best sleep machine/portable speakers I've found.

I have a long-standing policy of not writing reviews. That being said, this item warrants a post. On the plus side, the Sound Oasis turns on. Now the negatives - It looks used, or perhaps a demo model. Nothing was wrapped in plastic as one would expect. The unit's box was damaged and retaped. There are small marks on the exterior of the case, and it rattles when picked up. The "down" volume doesn't work, and the accompanying USB cable is slit, exposing the red wire inside. Sound Oasis indicates that it's not returnable. Fine. I'll put it in the recycle bin.Non-returnable doesn't mean non-refundable. As always, Amazon's customer service is terrific, so I'm getting a full refund. NB. This post isn't intended to be a ding on Sound Oasis' products - just this unit. I've used their products before and have been pleased with the sound and build quality. I may order this thing again. Hopefully I'll get a NEW, undamaged unit next time.

This is a fantastic little speaker and noise generator! I bought one from my audiologist's office for about $90, then found this one on Amazon. I bought this one as a gift for my daughter-in-law.It has a micro SD card that I assume you can load your own tunes, but I'm using the built-in sounds. It also has bluetooth, so I use an app called MyNoise from the Apple App Store. The built-in sound that helps the most with my tinnitus is the crickets chirping...we recently moved from Texas to the mountains and I realized that we don't have crickets at night! I was waking up in the middle of the night, then my tinnitus wouldn't let me go back to sleep. The soothing sounds of the crickets helps me get back to sleep. I actually think my dogs sleep later in the morning with the crickets, and don't try to wake me up at 5 a.m.—maybe all in my head, but it seems pretty consistent.This is GREAT for travel, too. We cruise a lot, so it will be nice to use for music in our stateroom or to drown out noises in the hallway. I've even used it for camping in my car...I have a self-inflating mattress for my car, and having a little noise puts me right to sleep.
