Good Cheap 2.1 system
My purpose for this 2.1 system is for listing to my ipod while on the PC and maybe an occasional movie on the pc. So I am bout 2 - 3 feet from all speakers. They are PC speakers, I would not recomend for a home theater or to fill a room large room. I was amazed by how clear the sound is and how loud it goes without distorting. I also liked that you can adjust the volume of the base to your liking. The base sounds great and really adds for a fuller sound. For those people who said there is no base, return it because there is something wrong w/ it. I have the sub under my desk and only have it set at half volume. When I turn it up it shakes my desk and is not distorted, popping, buzzing or humming. The Ipod dock works and sounds great w/ my ipod nano. Pros: Cheap - Good looking! Good clear sound w/ great adjustable base. ipod dock Cons: Nextel phones will intefere. ipod dock is permantly attached to Subwoffer. Makes set up difficult set up and limits subwoffer placement depending on desk. Overall - Great system for price. If this is your price range buy it!

Cool Laptop speakers
I have a MacBook and a Zune... go figure. The speakers on my laptop leave much to be desired, this is a great addition for a 'not so bulky' setup. As for the Zune/IPod compatibility, well, they may as well say it is compatible with every MP3 player. It is simply a line in mini jack that plugs into the headphone location. In this case, any player or computer will work. But to the reviewers credit, there are plastic Zune and IPod adapters that allow you to plug the USB cable in the bottom. Kinda hides the cable... useless in my opinion. Certainly a heck of a lot more economical and versatile than a stand alone Ipod or Zune external speaker system. I personally don't care for 'one trick ponies' Oh, the IPod stand that you see in the pic. It's just a flimsy plastic drawer that slides out. Again, you can put any MP3 player on this stand. Not sure how the IPod works but the Zune does not play music when it's connected to your computer so why is there a need to connect the USB and the speaker system simultaneously?? If you are listening to music while your player is connected to the pc, the audio input will need to be connected to the pc... mmmm As for the sound... the low freq. bass response is excellent and it packs a punch. The highs are just so so. But, this isnt my main hook up so it's "good for what it's good for." I would give it 3 stars because of the sound quality on the high end but I decided on 4 based on the price point. Decent deal though.

small size, BIG SOUND!
After reading the previous reviews, I became skeptical of purchasing this product, but I knew Logitech made great products, so I went ahead and bought it. The speakers were packed tightly and were wired together, making it a little tricky to take it out of the box, as some have mentioned, but after moving a few cardboard flaps, the speakers were free. Setting up the speakers was a breeze-plug the speakers into the back of the sub, plug the base into power, and plug the remote into the speaker jack. I did not find the wired-together speakers a hassle. I also found the MP3 player dock to be quite useful. My iPod USB cable fit perfectly and I can sync and charge my iPod at the same time. I also found the auxiliary jack to be useful in the front because I was planning on plugging my guitar into the speakers and using it as an light amplifier. The speakers look pretty good for the price and sound almost as good as my Creative 7.1 surround speaker system. I've had no problems with these speakers yet, and it's from Logitech, so it should last for a while.

A OK speaker...
I bought these from Amazon around 07 December. I was looking for a under $50 range speakers and these seemed to be rated decent in many reviews so I decided to go for it. However, when I got them I was disappointed and amazed at the same time. First of all, design were ok, boxy shape weren't the trend of the millenium yet they were sturdy enough because bass didn't had a scratch nor any effect after fall from about 5 feet high. Next, sounds were 'so so' if you have generous ears. Satellite Speakers are HORRIBLE. I'd rather listen to radios of 1950's then these satellite speakers alone. So when you listen to the satellites alone, it is the most horrible sound you could ever encounter. However, to counterfeit this horrible sound, bass comes in and 'neutralizes' the horrible sound. Actually when bass comes into part, sound doesn't sound that bad. Well, it sounded little better than my Dell Inspiron e1505 so I guess I will have to say sounds were not THAT horrible. Anyways, bass really saved the sound quality, but there is only one thing about the bass that bothers me and reason is that it is just TOO STRONG. You turn the bass by 15%, you start to feel the vibration. It booms everything and will shake all the objects near the bass. So, you would not want to use it in places like dormitory, work etc. because bass will go through everywhere, booming the ears of people around you. Last of all, the volume control and power button is great to have it separated. It enables to place speakers around the room. However, it does not hold the ipod like a picture. It could be just me being unable to figure out how to put it but only thing you could hold it in is small silver line that could not overcome the gravitational force of ipod. Overall, I gave it a three star. Speakers are not that bad altogether although it is little overpriced for its quality. I was seriously 'disgusted' by satellite speakers but bass saved it and since I'm a 'bass person' So, if you think these speakers are good enough for you and if you like super strong bass that just booms and vibrates. I must say these speakers are the ones for you. But i would not recommend this to anyone I know because I believe there are better products out there in this price range such as JBL spyro (could be bought cheaply through internet aka E-Bay) and again... bass has to cover the sound and sounds only decent on a loud volume overall this is not a good bargain

Stick with the X-230
I've owned the Logitech X-230s for several years and have always been more than pleased with their performance. They're easily the best sounding speakers in their price range. When it came time to buy another set of speakers for a second computer, I went searching for a new set of X-230s, but in my search I saw that there was a newer X-240 line of speakers, comparably priced. I assumed that I would be getting nearly the same or better sound quality out of a newer generation of my X-230s, but when they arrived the next day (amazon prime has changed my life) I was sorely disappointed. The sound quality is lacking significantly compared to the X-230s, and no matter what I did to my sound settings on my computer and the bass level on the subwoofer, I could not get away from the muddled mid-range tones. The highs are quite tinny and the speakers put out almost nothing in the lower range, instead relying on the subwoofer to do all the low-end sound. Even with my the subwoofer turned all the way down on the X-230, you still get fairly deep tones, but not so with the X-240s. If you turn the sub all the way down, you're left with speakers that sound no better than the ones Dell throws in free with your purchase of a discount computer. Just to make sure there wasn't a problem with the computer I hooked it up to, like a bad setting in the sound card properties making the output sound hideous, I swapped computers that the X-230 and X-240 were connected to. Sure enough, the X-240 still sounded awful while the X-230s still put out that beautifully clear, rich tone that I've always expected from them. About the subwoofer. The cone is a standard paper cone, which is no big deal, but I'm very bothered by the fact that it is not protected in any way. There is no cover for the cone itself, which is located on the outer side of the bottom panel. The legs raise it off the ground a little bit, but heaven help you if the sub gets knocked over or something gets kicked underneath it. The X-230 features an extremely sturdy metal cover over its cone and it is very well protected, and has survived numerous bumps and kicks over the years. The only advantage this speaker has over the x-230s is the little MP3 player port, if you can even really call it that, mostly just a cheap plastic stand which just requires more space on your desk, and requires you to run more wires... Great if you're into that sort of thing! So my best advice is to get the Logitech x-230 instead of the x-240 if you're looking for great sound from an inexpensive 2.1 package.

No happy dancing
I bought this set of speakers and loved the sound I was doing the happy dance for about a month when they suddenly stopped powering on. I contacted Amazon and they replaced them right away which made me do the happy dance again until I plugged them in and they would not power on either. So I have had 2 sets and both were broken. I am not sure what the odds are for that but I am no longer doing the happy dance.

Good value speakers
I was looking for a decent set of computer speakers with a subwoofer and an iPod dock. For $40 the Logitech X-240 seemed like a good deal to try. How true! I had actually first tried a similarly priced set from Best Buy that was terrible. Now, I'm no audiophile, but the X-240 speakers sound just great to me. We're not listening to music on a high-end audio/home theater system, but mostly mp3's on a computer after all. The set is physically very conveniently compact to fit in and under a small workstation area. The separate iPod dock is also the speaker volume control. I know some people have complained that the dock is too light to stay put when all the cords/wires are connected. I have found, however, that while that is initially true, it quickly stops being an issue when you settle on a good ergonomic spot on your desk for the dock. Also, a nice feature is being able to use the speakers with your iPod while the computer is off. Again, I think these speakers are a really good value for the average computer user that wants decent sound for a very reasonable price.

Not bad at all...
THese speakers are completely worth the $40 price tag. The sub is a lot smaller than I thought it would be, its about the size of half my size 13 shoe box. But then again, its louder than I expected it to be after seeing how small it is. If you're just after some good sound, nothing super loud, then these are perfect. If you want the bass to slap then it's just not enough. The speakers are as good as anything I've heard. Rich low and mid tones, maybe a little shy on the higher notes, but they sound really good and get pretty loud too. I'd buy these again in a second. Super easy to set up. The dock thing is pretty cool, and everything works really well. ***Update*** I bought these speakers my freshman year of college, and have used them probably 4 hours a day on average since they came out of the box. Surprisingly (and much to my satisfaction) they still have the same sound they had 3 years ago. I'm super impressed by the quality. There are definitely louder systems out there, but I don't think they'd be allowed in my apartment complex haha. Dope speakers. Incredible value.
