They really work! Three weeks later, no dead plants!
Prior to Covid I used to travel constantly for business, and had to rely on plastic plants and no pets as a way of life. I'm starting to get back into the travel thing, more for different places to work remote, and had bought some real, live house plants that suddenly were at risk of a slow death from lack of watering. Searching Amazon for an answer, I discovered these nifty little Blumatic watering stakes and decided to give it a try. Set up was easy - soak the little stakes, add some water, stick them in the pot, put the hoses into a little container of water, and head out of town. Three weeks later, we returned home to plants that were healthy, soil that was moist but not wet, and a nearly empty bowl of water for the little hoses. Now, instead of watering the plants, I just replenish the bowl of water. The plants are thriving, I have real, live plants in my home, and I have no guilt when I go away for a while that I've done in yet another plant. These are so simple, even I figured out how to use them - soak, fill, stick, hose, bowl, water, keep bowl full of water, enjoy live plants. Easily recommended.

Excellent - works so well on my potted citrus trees outside
I needed an automatic watering solution for my upcoming 2 week trip. I have two small citrus trees in planters on my patio. These were costly plants, and I knew they would die w/o watering for 2 weeks in my windy, desert environment. I tried some homemade waterers (bottles with holes), but those drained too quickly. With my trip fast approaching, I ordered these larger stakes. I followed the instructions carefully and filled a large 5 gallon Home Depot bucket with water, inserted the tubes, and placed it right by the plants. After studying the flow for a day, I adjusted the planters to be a couple of inches lower than the bucket so the flow would be better. I put strong foil over the top of the bucket of water to keep out insects and debris. Two weeks later, arriving home, I found the citrus trees were flowering and doing so well - in fact, with better results than my hand watering had been! It has been over 4 weeks now, and I'm still using the watering stakes exclusively for these planters. I highly recommend these stakes. Tip: Don't go running off w/o taking time to set it up correctly, study the flow, and adjust, if needed.

Worked for me
I was out of town for about two and a half weeks and I needed something to keep my indoor plants watered while I was away. I ended up ordering the original or junior Blumat for some 6-8” pots I had and the XL version for my bigger pots, which are like 10-12.” They were easy to set up and none of mine were broken upon delivery or when I shoved them into the soil. I followed the instructions to presoak them for a while and filled them up with water as shown. I rigged the smaller ones up to a gallon jug and put press and seal plastic wrap over the top. For the larger plants, I filled a five-gallon mop bucket about 3/4 full and wrapped the top of it in press and seal. They seemed to have worked fairly well. The little pots were overwatered. The bigger pots were completely out of water but the soil wasn’t too dry so it must’ve not happened super quickly. I’ll continue to work on another water reservoir with perhaps less evaporative surface for the next time I take an extended absence, and I’m going to try to use a completely full five gallon container of some sort. Like almost everything I buy anymore, I feel like these were kind of expensive, but ultimately they did the job without a lot of fuss.

Great if set up correctly
They work great but careful setup is important. Submerge the stake and the hose in a bucket or large container of water. Keep the entire system underwater for the rest of the process. Remove the cap from the stake and make sure the stake has no air in it. While keeping the stake and the hose underwater install and remove the cap from the stake repeatedly until no more air bubbles emerge from the submerged end of the hose while you're pushing the cap on. You're using the cap to push all the air out of the hose so push it on firmly. When all the air is out of the hose insert the stake into the soil, make sure it is deep enough and the soil has been watered. To avoid letting air in the hose keep the weighted end submerged. If you let the system get air locked it won't work, similar to a siphon.

Saved my Fiddle Leaf Fig
I was given an enormous Ficus Benjamina tree, in a large pot with compacted soil. It has to be indoors for the winter, and having limited experience with houseplants, I was afraid to overwater and kill it, and to have water leaking from the large pot. Enter the blumat. The tree has done great! I then bought a Ficus Lyrata online, that arrived lush from Florida, and promptly lost almost all its leaves due to the cold. It seems like no matter where I put it it was unhappy. Finally, with only a handful of leaves left, I was going to toss it in the trash (very sadly). But, I decided to give it one last chance and give it the exact same treatment as the other Ficus. I put it right next to the Bejamina, under a terrarium LED light, and put a Blumat in it. In less than a week, ALL its drooping leaves are now pointing to the sky again! I love that the plant seems to drink only as much water as it needs and no more. And I love that I can SEE (in the water reservoir) exactly when it needs to be watered again. I am sure the LED helped too. But Blumat is great. Most of my houseplants are in semihydroponics/hydroton/LECA, but for anything planted in soil, Blumat is the way to go. I am recommending it to all the green thumbs in my life. Plus, you can just change the size of the water reservoir (I use ball jars at the moment) if you want to travel, knowing the plants will be fine. I wish I had known about this years ago.

chewed through by animals
these worked great in our outdoor planters until some animals chewed through the tube connecting to the water source. Luckily we saw it before all the flowers died. Now wehavea dozen unusable cones. I have been unable to reach anyone at the company . I would like to replace the tops and find a solution to this problem
