For over 35 years, this time-proven guide has been continuously revised to assist managers in appraising employee performance. Review: The BEST book for anyone in a leadership or management position - I have been in a leadership/administrative position for 20+ years and this book is my favorite, most practical, and most used book I own. I’ve used it annually for employee evaluations and I’ve also purchased at least 20+ additional copies to give as gifts to some of my other management team members. The book is written in a way that it provides good strong words that are meaningful and impactful to employees because they are specific. It is comprised of meaningful phrases that are easy to use and apply. I especially love that the book is designed in such a way that you can use the terms to stress positives as well as negatives/areas to work on (for example- in the area of ‘creativity’, you could use the description, “displays a strong power of observation” in a positive way or you could rephrase it to say, “employee does not display a strong power of observation” or “an area of opportunity would be lack of observation”. I also like the way it is broken down by topic. It’s not just a list of words (some example topics include, ‘communication skills’, ‘knowledge’, ‘cost management’, ‘resourcefulness’, ‘supervisory skills’, ‘professionalism’… There are so many topics to really evaluate how an employee is specifically doing as well as highlight their strengths or areas of improvement easily and effectively). This book makes it so easy turn an ‘average evaluation’ into something that will make employees truly stop, reflect, and think about themselves. It helps administrators and leaders quickly complete an evaluation that in the eyes of their employees, appears to have taken hours as it becomes written in such an individualized and personal way. I once had an employee tell me that they had “never had an evaluation like this… I feel like you’ve spent so much time on me, as an employee and I want to really do better.”. If you ever do employee evaluations, you NEED this book! Review: Amazing book that helps with employee evaluations - I bought this book for my husband. He is a manager and is required to fill out employee performance review worksheets. He has always taken SO long to fill them out because he couldn't think of the right phrases to always use. This book has been an amazing help! It has tabs to help him find the topic and then he just looks for an appropriate phrase to use on the evaluation that he is doing. With this book, he is done with evaluations in no time! I wish I had found this book years ago, and so does he!!

Totally enhances writing
This book has instrumentally changed the way I write. It has really helped me enhance my resume and set my self apart. It has also come in handy for writing my teams up for awards. I never thought a goofy book like this could really offer any useful tips, but after borrowing a copy from a friend, I knew it's something I had to add to my collection. I have used this much more that I thought I would. I have already recommended this to several people. It's a really great tool and I wish I had known about it a lot longer!

Excellent to use when brainstorming for employee reviews
Excellent to use when brainstorming for employee reviews. Format makes it quick and easy to use. Some review topics seem to be missing therefore I will likely be purchasing one of the other books available by different author that appears to have more content. But this book really is extremely helpful.

best book ever
i would give it a 20 stars but i can only put five !! very simple sentences it gives you and better idea not only to write your self a good resume, but also to write a very professional reviews to your staff. PS. i had been using this book for close to 20 years when i was a manager in a well known company, i was able to write very good reviews made staff to be thankful for the kind and professional words... i had bought this book over the years 4 times probably more because people borrow it and never return it .... more recently i bought it again i don't need it i'm not a manager or neither looking for a job but i need it to have it and this time i would never lend it to nobody.

Great tool
Makes performance reviews easier and more meaningful. I used this to write my first performance reviews this year and my employees were very happy and felt their reviews were meaningful and helpful for growth and development. I will always use this when writing performance reviews! I even used it to help write better interview questions to hire new employees.

Fantastic book!
I purchased this book when I first had to write evaluations and awards and it was incredibly helpful; now I have the updated version and it is better than the first. If you are tasked with writing performance evaluations, this book is for you. It has clearly marked categories and is easy to navigate, well worth the purchase.

Required for your office bookshelf...
This is my second copy, I had received in a Manager's Training program several years ago, then loaned it to a mentee and she forgot to return it. I I used this in completing my performance evaluations on my eight full-time staff and it was a TREMENDOUS help. It can be challenging to find the right words and this book really helps you define the specific skills you are evaluating. This should be required for all managers who evaluate their employees.

Good book for appraisals
This is very handy for those struggling to find phrases for written appraisals of subordinates. Even if you don't use the phrases verbatim, it will inspire you to put sentences together in your own words.
