Pro Tec L226SP Trumpet 6-Point Leather Valve Guard

I've purchased 2 of these in the past year and I'm pretty happy with them. On one horn I use it to protect my hand from the lacquer that is wearing off and on a different horn I use it to protect the silver plate from tarnish. It protected my hand from the lacquer very well and I'd give it 5 stars for that purpose, but there's a few issues with using it to protect silver plate. Depending on how you hold your trumpet, it maybe take some bending and breaking in to get this to fit your hand, so for a week or so it won't protect the horn fully. Whenever I take the protector off I have found smudges and marks under it that wipe off easily, these shouldn't be a problem if you regularly (every month or so) clean your trumpet. If you don't I would recommend cleaning under the gaurd at least every other month to be safe. Appearance and comfort wise it's very good and it feels high quality. They're consistent as both feel exactly the same on both trumpets. They fit both very well too, a bach beginner trumpet and a yamaha xeno. I would buy it again as it's worth the money, but I don't have any other trumpets.

This is great to help protect the valves. I highly recommend this for all trumpets but especially higher end trumpets. Great quality and very soft to touch.

Great item!

I've had the same Schilke leather wrap on my trumpet for literally 30 years... it was past time to get a new one. My previous wrap left the metal where the 3rd valve meets the 3rd valve slide exposed and my fingers resting on there over the years has really worn down and corroded the metal severely. In shopping around, this Pro Tec wrap was the most complete coverage I could find, including a really good leather flap that fully covers that area and manages to do it without impeding the motion of the 3rd valve slide. This guard is really well made and the materials are quality and don't smell bad. My fingers don't touch the metal anywhere except the slides and valve caps, and the right hand pinky hook! My only issue is just a matter of me getting used to it - I realize I've been tucking my left thumb under the leadpipe all these years and now there is a leadpipe cover blocking my thumb. It doesn't seem to be an issue, but just something a bit different I'm getting used to. Overall, very happy with this purchase. Recommended.

Not real leather, so my hand sweats.

I used this on a Bach Stradivarius 43 and a Yamaha 8443. It fits both of them perfectly fine. It covers all contact-points for my left hand, so I only touch the 1st and 3rd valve rings. It's very well built, using good leather and very well stitched. As expected from ProTec. My sweat is very acid, so I have always used valve guards. So far, a home-made guard I got manually stitched by a high-end leather-purse maker was the best I used. This one is almost as good (minus some custom embroidery I added just to experiment). Definitely the best "mass-produced" valve guard I yet tried. It's still leather, so I'd recommend to take it off now and then so it dries off. I'll be buying a spare one just for that.

It fits my Yamaha student trumpet very nicely, and it does provide very good protection from the sweat of my fingers. Highly recommended
