Is the plastic core sturdy

I know that the set I have is very durable. A friend and I take them out and spar and hold nothing back. They have connected with flesh and with each other and other than the foam cracking open from the impact there hasn't been any sign of a weakened frame. I've been very impressed so far.

How fare is the point of balance from the pommel?

These swords don't have a pommel, But the distance from bottom of handle to balance point is 17 1/2 inch. 9 inches from the hand guard.

Does this foam sword have a soft tip? Does the foam blade area have a material coveringthe foam?

Yes it does have a soft tip. There is about 2inches of foam covering the end of what seems to be a plastic pipe. The foam has a kind of rubbery coating. They have been very durable.

Do they have vinyl over the foam?

There is a coating over the foam. I don't think it is vinyl. It is more like plastic dipped.
