Excellent
Earth 2 Vol 5: The Kryptonian does most everything right. The volume includes 6 main issues that continue the story where Vol. 4 left off, and a Futures End tie-in issue entitled "Power to the People" that I cannot make sense of no matter how hard I try.I should be clear in saying that I have NOT read Futures End as of the writing of this review, which is most likely cause for my confusion. If you're in my situation and are strictly looking for the continuation of the Earth 2 story, keep in mind that you're effectively paying for 6 actually good issues and one useless issue.Tom Taylor's writing on issues 21-26 are tight and easy to read, with dialogue being believable (mostly) and the overall plot having good flow. There were a few specific moments I thought were a bit silly (like how Val-Zod was able to fix Dr. Fate's helmet so easily), but those moments are nitpicking at best. In the overall, the writing is superb and is leaving me more than excited for the release of Vol. 6 in... december...Nicola Scott's artwork on the series has been excellent, and this volume is no exception. While the line work is great in it's own regard, I find where the artwork really shines is when you take into consideration the consistency of the artwork's quality, considering how Nicola Scott has been the only artist for the series (up to this point at least, and excluding the 0 issue and tie in issues). With equally great ink and coloring jobs by Trevor Scott and Pete Pantazis, Earth 2's artwork is easy on the eyes and really helps to differentiate Earth 2 from it's peers. My only complaint, and I'll admit that it's a fairly minor complaint, is the cover of the volume itself. Power Girl is absolutely nowhere in this volume, not even in variant covers, and given the blatant pacifism of Val-Zod, nowhere in this book does he throw a snarl, much less a punch.Despite what my needless nitpicking may lead you to believe, Earth 2 Vol. 5 is a worthy addition to the Earth 2 catalog. Definitely recommended.

DC Succeeds with Earth 2
The Earth 2 saga is one of the most original takes on the DC Universe in recent years. It explores a world without heroes, in which the "trinity" of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, along with earth's other heroes, have sacrificed themselves to stop Darkseid and his minions from invading earth. But, suddenly and surprisingly, Superman seemingly returns, this time corrupted by Darkseid into a nearly unstoppable force of evil. Yet, the earth is not finished and new heroes emerge, including a new Kryptonian teenager who appears able to give the Man of Steel a fight for his life. It's a great read and a fascinating look at "what could be".

It’s almost as good as a soda left overnight on the kitchen counter
OK, I am going to be honest and say I really didn’t like the Earth 2 series but like an abused puppy, my love for anything JSA, even this sad sack ghost of the Justice Society was all that was available at the time. Kinda like a Coke that you opened and left on the kitchen counter last night, you intellectually know it’s gonna be flat and room temperature the next day, but yet you nonetheless take a gulp hoping it won’t be as bad as you know it will be.That’s the entire Earth 2 storyline. Yeah it is a wannabe JSA world fully equipped with Super Obamaman too so you at least get to a Twitter blue check mark seal of approval. Other than that, this series was a waste of great artwork and lacks a focused story.

If you've read the first 4 volumes, read this one too!
I'm loving this series and I have to say that the events just keep on escalating and escalating in Earth 2. They've connected so many awesome characters and events from earth 2 to some of the characters and events were more related to. This volume is where things start to build the hill before the fall. It feels like things are starting to take a turn towards the end of this series. Can't wait for the next volume.
