Accurate and Not the cheap one
I was able to do a project with these and they worked really well. I did a lot of research on these and I think there are a lot of versions of this product that have some knockoff parts that don’t actually work, but this one seems to be legit!

These Actually Work
These types of soil sensors are superior to the resistive type, but manufacturing issues abound. Fortunately these don’t fall into that category. All 5/5 worked for me.

Not bad but I don't expect them to last forever
Have been using these a while, they work well. I'm concerned that they may die from eventual corrosion over time but after all we are shoving a PCB into spil. So far though they worked well for ESPHome and I get fairly accurate readings. Just measure the voltage at 100% saturation of your soil and also read it "dry" before putting into your plant. Has been working well and I'll probably order these again.Tip to the manufacturer: These would be so much better if you had some mounting holes on them. DIY-ers like myself build enclosures and I could easily attach my ESP32 directly to the soil monitor enclsoure that is 3D Printed. Without mounting holes I have to rely on pure pressure to keep the sensor in place. A couple of M3 holes at the top would be a nice addition. So would some solder points so I didnt have to use the cable but not nearly as important.

Most of them worked
This sensors do work but one of them had strange values coming from it , the other 4 are consistent.Had to tune at code because the value changes depending on the size and granularity of different souls , some plants have regular potting soil other I use gravel o mixes and the numbers change widely from each one, many articles take air as dry and water as wet, this is not the case as water returns more voltage than wet potting soil..also some solis behave non linear but only between dry and first moist levels, no plant like that much dryness in an absorbent soil anyways.They do work for your diy needs. Still don't know about how much time will they ve reading values correctly.

TL555c Timing Chip, proper voltage regulator and correct solder paths are all a good sign
The 5 modules I received had the correct components (some other manufacturers use older chipsets or don't include the voltage regulator. The ones I received are all working well and build to the correct schematic

The first two have failed so far.
I had previously ordered a package of five of these from the same vendor. But, several failed so I bought this set of five to replace the failed ones. This units in this batch were different from the first giving different output values for 0 and 100% moisture than the others. But the first two of this batch have failed to 100% moisture output after only a few days in service. Hopefully I can find two others from this batch that won’t fail but I definitely won’t buy any more of these.

Works
Works as described. Calibrated by measuring in free air and dunked in glass of water. I will be looking for versions of these devices with a digital output however so one ESP board can monitor multiple devices.
