Good miso paste
This is a verygood miso. I enjoy it. I have read a lot of comments on here people complaining about this miso not being a white color but red or brown. From experiences of eating miso a lot..all white miso will eventually turn brown or red color due to being sit in a warm climate (for example like amazon keeps their stuff in a warm climate possibly) though the color has changed..it does not mean the miso has gone bad. Due to the salt and certain fermented ingredients in the miso, due to temp and the longer it is, it changes color but it is still good to use. Miso last for a long time. Especially in your fridge. Usually the miso is completely white because it is freshly made from the factory and they package them up..from later on they will change in color but is still very good to eat, it does not mean it has gone bad. Even after expiration date..the miso is still good to use and does not go bad fast..can last up toa year if anything. ANYWAY I hope this help anyone who thought their miso purchase has gone bad due to change of color.

yummy and perfect miso
This is what miso soup is supposed to taste like. I'm happy to find it. I put it in a big 32 oz jar to keep it in my refrigerator. It will probably go bad before I can even think about finishing it all. I love miso soup and was buying those tiny little expensive packets. Oh silly me, doing it all wrong. This with some seaweed and tofu and I'm in heaven. I bought some bonito stock and noodles, added some veggies and a boiled egg and I have a ramen soup that is better than a restaurant. At a fraction of the cost. Probably not the most healthy thing for me, but it helps with fasting.

Good quality
This is a very good product. I am not professional chef but I enjoy learning to cook Asian foods. This is a useful product to make many kinds of Asian stews, soups, and sauces. Keeps a long time in the fridge. When I received my package of miso, I opened the bag with scissors from top to bottom and scooped out the miso and put it in a large jar in the fridge so it is easy to access with a spoon. There is a white version of miso, which I understand is for lighter, less hearty tasting soups and sauces.

This is a good product at a decent price. My problem is with the packaging
This is a good product at a decent price. My problem is with the packaging. I recommend that when you receive this miso paste, transfer it to different packaging or a container. A ziplock bag or plastic/silicone food storage container. Completely remove all contents from the plastic packaging this comes in. Scrape the sides, get as OCD as you want about removing every last bit. I usually stop when my scraping yields less than 1 tsp or so. If this sounds like a pain, well, it’s easier than fighting with the original packaging material every time you want to take out a tablespoon for your recipe.

Versatility
i like that I can use this as a base for my other soups. I add this to my cream of tomato soup, very tasty.Good value for the money. I would recommend this if you are looking for a good tasting Miso soup.

doubt this is vegan
Package arrived broken open just like the other reviews have mentioned. However, I tasted it anyway. The taste is great but it's not the taste of miso. It's much more salty, lacks the "wine" like fermented character I associate with Miso. It also smells a bit fishy and tastes a bit fishy too. I'm 100% plant based. I only mention this because I can usually pick up on these embeded fish or meat flavors that others might not notice because they eat it daily and anything you have daily you don't notice as much.Tetsujin, the manufacturer, also makes a bonito fish powder for fish soups and stews. I'm 90% certain this contains that same fish powder. Two reasons; the taste and the texture. It tastes fishy as I've said and you can also smell the fishyness. And it's thinner than any miso I've ever seen in my entire life. I've been eating Miso since I was 14 and buying it since my twenties. I belive it's less thick because they blend in the bonito fish powder and then have to add water to get that to blend into the "miso" part. China's food industry is widely known to adulterate products so save money. There's a few documentaries which covers this. It's well documented and has been going on for decades.Amazon covered the return though as part of my prime benefits. So thanks Amazon! Def. makes prime worth it for issues like this!

Wonderful flavor
I wasn't getting what I wanted from the boxes of miso soup they would sell in the grocery. Using this, along with Bonito & kombu made my miso soup turn into what I want when O go to a sushi restaurant. Very tasty, the miso bloomed in the soup the way it does when it's done right and the quality for the price means I will have a lot of soup to make!

Miso soup baby!
I got some Hondashi, extra firm tofu, green onion, and this miso and turned it into a very solid miso soup I can have whenever I want at home! That’s the only reason I bought this, but I’m sure I can find a million other uses. It’s pretty salty but I really like the taste. Mine was more of a yellow color. I threw away the package and put it in two jars. The packaging was thick and didn’t seem like it would burst unless you stepped in it or something. I had good luck.
