Manual Spice Mill - Cinnamon Grinder and Nutmeg Grater (Stainless Steel)

I shouldn't have hesitated to spend the money on this convenient whole spice mill for whole nutmeg. I knew I wanted a "finger safe" microplane, but was initially discouraged by some of the reviews. This handy spice mill is well designed. It has a bottom plug, for when you're not grinding & keeps counters clean. As a test to see how small a piece of nutmeg could be grabbed and grated - now I'm using ends that normally I would have tossed. I like the grated nutmeg powder size, as well as the amount easily produced. There is a separate storage area for spice not in use. And the microplane surface is easy to clean. The joy & ease of having fresh grated nutmeg (and safe fingers) is money well spent.

I bought this for my mom, who loves grating fresh nutmeg on several different dishes. We've gone through a few in our house, rejecting them because of poor quality or clumsiness of use, and this is by far the best one we've had. It is well made, and we haven't had any issues with it in the three or four years we've been using it. It fits nicely into your hand, even if your hands are small, and it is easy to twist and grind the nutmeg. It has a very nice, fine, consistent grind, with no rough big chunks coming through - and you can adjust how large or fine the grind is based on how hard you press it while twisting, which is nice. The blades haven't gotten dull yet, and it still works just as well as when we first got it. A nice bonus is that when you twist the top off, there's space to store whole nutmegs (maybe around 8 or so), even though the whole profile is sleek and not bulky at all. The only negative to it is that the top part is only really held to the bottom part by gravity, so you can only pick it up by the bottom part. There are little bumps to keep the two parts together, but those wore off within a couple weeks of use. But this hasn't really been an issue, as you just get used to picking it up by the bottom section. All in all, this is a very well-designed and well-made product, and I would highly recommend it!

You are not going to want to grate a lot of any spice manually, but for specific "hard" spices, this does really well. I don't think you have much control of the fineness of the grated item. Everything I've tried so far comes out "finely" grated, but for me that is okay. I specifically bought this to grate Indian Long Pepper, which has a long, hard, sometimes twisty shape. Long pepper wouldn't grate from a regular pepper grater. I have a small mortar & pestle and that works fine for the Long Pepper, but a little messy. But, I put a few of the Long Pepper in the drum, and twisted the grater. Finely grated pepper came out. Result, pungent, freshly & finely grated pepper. Exactly what I wanted. This grater has a storage compartment at the top for ungrated spice. *I tried Star Anise, Stick Cinnamon, Cloves, Cumin, regular round pepper, Long Pepper, Grains of Paradise, and even Mustard Seeds. The grater worked for all of the above. This grater seems "elegant" in it's design. Simple, but does the job well. Would it be less likely to break if the drum was made of metal? Would be nice if you could remove the microplane part when it wears out, and replace it with a new one, cheaper than buying a new one. Like that storage compartment at the top. A lot of thought went into this simple design! ADDENDUM: After 8 months, the grinder is still working perfectly. But oddly, the storage compartment has frozen shut, and I haven't managed to "break" this seal, in order to gain access to the stored items. ADDENDUM2: It just stopped working. I couldn't figure out why. Then I noticed that the microplane was rotating along with the grinder mechanism. I'm going to superglue it and I think that will correct the problem.

My wife moved my previous grater to the basement because she didn’t like ugly green. This is attractive. It works well to grind nutmeg onto eggnog during the holidays.

I love this thing. I'm too lazy to grind up long pepper in a mortar, and using a normal long microplane with little spices is a guaranteed way to shred up your fingers. You can chuck a bunch of (hard) spices in this thing, load some more up in this lid for storage, and leave it on the counter to zhush up any dish. It's the 'sticky' kind of rubber that's easy to grip, make grinding easy. It's also well built, and reasonably priced.

After much reading of reviews on numerous graters, I bought this to replace a lovely little plastic nutmeg grater that I had owned for decades [It had its issues (could only store small nutmegs, would jam up and needed to have the nutmegs pried out and reset, was enormously difficult to close correctly) but it worked quite well until I dropped it. One little chip and it was totally unusable.] This new grater is absolutely FABULOUS! Stores a handful of nuts, takes almost no effort, and yields PLENTY of fresh grated nutmeg! If the nuts get stuck, a quick little shake, or add another, and you're back in action! I am innkeeper at a Bed & Breakfast and use nutmeg a lot, and fresh-grated is so superior. The only things that could make this better are a base or cover for the bottom (so it doesn't leave a dusting of ground nutmeg underneath it) and a little more secure attachment (the top just drops into place, and comes apart easily if you don't keep the device upright). The texture is easy to grip, although I'm concerned it might not age well, but right now I'm just so fricking delighted to have found an amazing, easy-to-use, productive fresh nutmeg grater!

Love it. The best nutmeg grinder I have used. A bit pricy but well worth it. Nice fine micro shavings. I like you can store extra nutmeg nuts inside it. No more getting your fingers dragged across the rasp or trying to grind small pieces.

Mooi stevig product dat perfect doet waarvoor ik het kocht: nootmuskaat raspen. En zeer handig ook. Bovendien zit er een dekseltje op aan de onderkant zodat er geen gruis in je kast valt wanneer je hem opbergt.

Me encanta este molinillo de nuez moscada! Las hojas son muy resistentes y rayan las nueces con muchísima facilidad dejando las partículas muy finas. Por fin puedo rallar las nueces moscadas desde el principio hasta el final sin tener miedo por rallarme los dedos. Permiten aprovechar todo, absolutamente todo de la nuez. Además, tiene un compartimento que permite guardar las nueces entre un rayado y el otro. Y también un tapón que permite guardarlo sin ensuciar la balda con los restos de las especias molidas. Me encanta! Muy buena calidad.
