This book should be a required read for anyone with a phone, computer, TV! It should be a required read in health class and on the desk at work. Good info, but not new or revolutionary
I enjoyed this book, however, if you read a lot about health, wellness, nutrition and diet, this is nothing new. The authors advise the reader to 1) minimize digital time 2) practice empathy (journal/connect) 3) expose oneself to nature 4) eat no processed foods, refined carbs & no sugar. Eat more plants. 5) get enough sleep 6) exercise 7) meditate 8) foster relationships. All great stuff, but now much new if one is a student of health & wellness already. I DO think the authors fell VERY short in the chapters addressing technology and use of our devices. They do not like social media, which is fair, but to completely not address gaming as a HUGE issue with brain development/health is complete negligent!! Gamers are probably the MOST device addicted, and gaming is leading to ALL KINDS of problems—violence, poor judgment, and abuse to name a few. Gaming was hardly mentioned, I’m not even certain these Dr.s are aware of how big the gaming addiction/problem is. Many of these games have a social aspect as well, so players believe they are playing against or with their “friends”. I think the authors missed the mark on that one. The recipes & eating plans are ok-hard for the average person to follow, I’m guessing. And the Drs want you to sleep, but don’t offer many solutions to those with serious problems in this arena. Again, I liked the book, and I DID learn a bit from it, but felt it lacked a bit of depth, and just scratched the surface of brain health.

Excellent Read, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Such a well written and articulate book on the importance of lifestyle and mental health! I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this book! You will walk away with some practical tips to help restore balance and health to your every day life! I read this during the coronavirus pandemic and it was especially poignant for my mental health! One of my top 10 favorite books that I’ve read in the Health & Wellness realm!!

Exactly what the doctor ordered after too much isolation
I nearly flunked my Neurology course during graduate college but now I am completely fascinated with learning details on the brain anatomy and functioning especially how to keep or strengthen the connections between the left and right hemisphere or keep my frontal cerebral lobe stronger than the "A word" part of the brain - which if left unchecked -can turn you into a narcissist!! This book explained what has been happening with our society lately and even explained why my brain is not functioning at its optimal level after a year of COVID lockdowns ( being more isolated and disconnected. Dr Perlmuter both David and Austin conveyed what things I could do to address those issues, limiting social media (such as Twitter! ), limiting negative daily doses of news (such as main stream media). Do less texting and more picking up the phone and writing old fashioned letters --- and MEDITATION. Really enjoyed learning the astonishing latest research on what changes happen in the brain due to even 15 minutes of meditation.

Good but nothing really new
It’s pretty darn impossible to say anything bad about Dr Perlmutter. He’s got so much good advice to offer and clearly is on top of the preventive medicine game. What left me a bit underwhelmed in this book was I that found it to be pretty much a rehash of all that’s been published and YouTubed and written about the long term necessity of eating whole foods, tossing out the junk and additives, systemic inflammation, (how many times have you been told tumeric is good for you by now, do you need to hear that again?) and living in a psychology healthy way: connected to nature, other people, and your “best self”. Doc P. here runs the message through the brain health wash, which is fine, but there’s nothing very novel coming across if you’ve delved into this whole shebang before through *his* prior books and the other luminaries in this field. If you’ve not read or followed any of Doc P.’s prior work or others like him than sure, this book will definitely be very valuable. Leave it at that.

This book has made me aware of the source of most of my problems. It's really mind blowing. I took so many notes on my Kindle, I was literally highlighting full paragraphs over and over again. It's a must read.

So many food recipes, which also I didn't like (too complicated, and designed too much for the US). But beyond that, the overall concept is good and very interesting
