Jim Dunlop Primetone® Standard Grip Pick .73MM - 3 Pack

These picks are fantastic. Lately celluloid picks seem to be wearing out and breaking incredibly easily, and that's amongst all the main manufacturers. I was looking at my options when I saw these and though skeptical of the price, I tried them out and they're totally worth it. After several days of frequent playing, it looks brand new. It would have been two or three celluloid picks at that rate. They feel great, the texture certainly helps with grip, though I wish the grip extended a little closer to the tip. This material is much stiffer than nylon or celluloid, so you may want a thinner size than you typically use. Now the only problem is not losing them.

I’ve played the JD .88 nylons for decades. These are even better. The .73 is very similar to the grey nylon .88 in terms of stiffness, but it’s much quieter (cleaner edges) and a little faster. Same good traction to hold onto. Definitely superior to celluloid.

Nice bevel with smooth and snappy picking. Really great if you're a habitual flat-picker, but will take adjustment if you like to angle your grip. The material feels sturdy and dense, like a slice of jade. All the edges are very smooth and round, but the bevel gives it some kick.

I ordered these picks in hope that I could stum and cross pick without the pick sliding around in my fingers (I have thick hands). When the package arrived (on time) I was so excited to try them. After opening them I realized that 2 of the three picks in the pack where the right 3mm picks, however one of them was a 1.4mm which will not work for me. I immidiatly contacted Dunlop directly. While I was waiting on a response I tried the 3mms out and behold they are great! Super precise, great tone, and they slide through the strings like butter! The texture of them accompanied with the thickness allows them to stay in your fingers without budging. After 24 hours or so I heard back from Dunlop they seemed very concerned with their error they asked for my address and sent out two new picks to fix the problem. I have more than happy with these picks and will absolutely recommend them to any other guitarist. In my opinion they are the best pick you can get for the price!

I'm here reviewing this because of the guys on That Pedal Show. In a recent livestream of TPS, Mick and Dan rather reluctantly mentioned guitar picks--apparently it's a topic they have actively avoided delving into at length on their show. Anyway, they both sang the praises of Dunlop Primetone picks--sculpted picks with beveled edges, about 1.4 mm thick. They like them because the pick material glides over the strings very well. So I thought I'd check them out. I always play standard, Fender-style picks between .60 and .80 mm. I don't play 1.4 mm picks, though, because those are more like a lead pick than a rhythm pick. I'm not much of a lead player anyway--I like picks with a little flex in them so they 'give' a little when I'm hitting chords. I was happy to notice that Dunlop makes Primetone picks in .73 mm and a traditional shape, which is ideal for me. I was also happy to see that the price was fairly reasonable--about a dollar per pick for a three-pack. I placed an order immediately. I've now been trying one out for the last week or so. Apparently the picks are hand shaped and finished, with the shaper's initials marked on the package. The material is smooth and it glides over the strings easily--they're very fast and accurate. They have embossed logos to help grip the pick--it's raised just enough to be useful without being annoying. The pick feels nice in the fingers, and so far it's a real pleasure to play. Pick noise seems to be less than other picks, but I will put more time in with them to be really sure. The picks are in a pleasant, root beer color, which I really like, but on my brown ottoman it virtually disappears when I put one down. I wish Dunlop could make these in brighter colors. Dunlop Tortex picks have been among my main picks for a long time, mainly for the feel of the material in my fingers--especially when they're brand new. Now I feel like Primetone and Ultex picks are gradually pulling me over toward smoother materials and faster play. So far, Primetones are a winner. Kudos to the guys at That Pedal Show for pointing these out.

Great long lasting pick. High quality. Very durable. Nice grip. Good for shredding. This might be the best pick that I’ve ever tried. This one is good for strumming but also good for soloing. It doesn’t bend even though it’s thinner. Go buy it.

Great picks, but I thought it said 3- 2.5, not 2- 2.5 and a thinner .96. I didn’t see that noted any where.

Good control and improves my grip with the texture

These are the best picks money can buy. I have been using the same one for over four years and there is only negligible wear. I only bought more as it is the first time I have seen them available since my first purchase.

It is much better than expected. I am using it for my acoustic guitar.

These picks sound and feel so good. A bit pricey but worth every penny!

I have 3 different gauges of Primetone picks and like the way they glide off the strings, The 1.0 is versatile, strum or pick. More money than the standard picks, but a nice upgrade.

The Jim Dunlop Primetone Standard 1.3mm I got for my brother he plays guitar and loves them. The right grip and action makes these picks easy to strum and play. Well worth it.
