Process Centrifugal Compressors: Basics, Function, Operation, Design, Application

Brief but clear description on the theoretical and practical issues are covered in the text. Especially the functions and features of compressor components, compressor design constraints, and load control methods seem very helpful for the understanding of compressor system configuration. Lots of mathmatical approaches for the mecanical design of components and practical case studies along with application examples can also be found.

EXCELENT
This book help people like me that need to understand and handle the terms, theory and practice of centrifugal compressor quickly and that we do not have a good knowlege before. On the other hand the author present himself like a old professor that todays is very difficult to find, friendly, like a phather tell to his sons or students something important to theirs lifes.Congratulations for you people and for him for this terrifc work.

good info
This is a great book if you want to learn about process centrifugal compressors. Friendly writting and detailed information. This book is as advertised. I would have given 5 stars, but there is no page that has the nomenclature collected. It must be drawn from the text.

A mathematically sound school of thought in centrifugal compressors!
To me as a compressor application engineer, the book "Process Centrifugal Compressors" by Klaus Lüdtke stands out like an unsung hero in the world of compressor texts. It is specifically addressed to attack the gaps in understanding within a subset of turbomachinery applied for specific industrial purposes. Published in 2004, this is a compendium of 40 years of the author's experience in the centrifugal compressor process industry - in aero design, component development and testing, technical bid support and in-house training to young engineers. I doubt other authors can lay claim to such a long and hard won process of knowledge gathering. The book delivers a pragmatic German school of thought in applying centrifugals. One of the key basis behind this thought is that what's at the heart of aero-thermodynamics is real gas formula. Through a clear and generalized mathematical approach, he draws together the picture of real gas thermodynamics and then proceeds to describe in detail the components, design constraints and off-design approaches for these machines. An entire chapter is devoted to the topic of up/re-rating of compressors, which I find particularly suitable for an application engineer. All-in-all, a must have on the book shelf. At the time of writing, Dr. Ludtke worked at the Turbomachinery and Propulsion Department of the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics and was a Fellow of ASME. I'm not aware if he's in retirement now.
