Sunchang Gochujang Tube (60 g (1 Pack))

Bought this for some Asian dishes that we make. Tastes great and easy to measure out what we want.

Gochujang is not only a requirement for good Korean food, but is a must have for the spicy food enthusiast. The best way I can describe the taste is roasted chili pepper with a note of toasted rice nuttiness and plenty of heat. I was worried it would taste too much like Sriracha, but this is very different and something I will definitely purchase again in a larger container. The paste is thick and a little goes a long way. For those wanting to know, here's the ingredient list for Sunchang Gochujang: Corn syrup, rice, water, red pepper mixed with seasoning (red pepper powder, salt, garlic, onion), red pepper powder, salt, isomaltoogosaccharide, fermented soybean paste (soybean, salt, seed malt), spirits, contains 2% or less of yeast extract powder, glutinous rice, seed malt. *Contains: Soybean

So good! Only wished more people sold it - or the company offered it in a 0.5 kg or 1.0 kg container!

Work well for mixing into Asian inspired dishes. Not too spicy but has an specific taste.

Delicious paste. Took a star off because the number of servings in the tube was not great for the price, but the product itself is wonderful. I bought this on Amazon in a pinch because I could get it faster than I could get to the Asian market. From now on, I will source it locally to get a better price. Really made my Korean dish taste authentic, though!

Why are people criticizing the size? It's RIGHT ON the description. Yes, this is a small tube, easy to keep in the fridge if you don't often use gochujang and, when you do, use it in small amounts. If you want a big tub, buy one! Having gotten used to using it and had a few recipes turn out well, I'll be sizing up, but it was nice to buy a small size when I was first using this ingredient and figuring out if I wanted to invent in a larger size taking up room in the back of my fridge! Taste was great, not too spicy but it has a nice kick, and you taste the flavors first and then get the pepper kick after. Well balanced.

This is the key ingredient if you are looking to achieve that Korean BBQ taste. The first time I had a Kogi taco from the truck was an amazing culinary experience. However, this is just one of the ingredients if you are going for a sauce condiment. The first recipe I used this in was from the Steamy Kitchen website, she actually has a recipe for the Kogi BBQ sauce and it's delicious. So far I have had the sauce in rice, on meat, veggie and egg dishes. It is so addictive! It is a second only to my favorite food on earth, Rendang from Indonesia.

This worked perfectly for what I needed, since it was my first time using Gochujang. The recipe I purchased it for called for 2 tablespoons and that is exactly what is in this tube. Next time I will definitely get a larger amount. Regarding the corn syrup ingredient - It looks like almost all of the Gochujang on Amazon have corn syrup listed as an ingredient. I read somewhere that it is possibly an incorrect translation from rice syrup. I'm not really sure it matters either way, this product is sweetened with sugar. It is 60 calories for a tablespoon which was surprising for me.
