Can it cook brown rice

Yes it can cook any type of rice, the amount of water to rice ratio may need to be increased.

Do I need an adapter to use in UK?

Mine came with two European plugs and I had to order a UK style one. Infuriating!

It says you can keep the rice hot for up to 8 hours. What stops is working for longer? Why not days/weeks, which you need for black garlic.

Maybe you're just asking too much of this range of steamer

Hello from Reishunger, the rice cooker needs between 15 and 20 minutes. It depends on the kind and amount of rice you are cooking. Whole grain rice takes significantly longer than white rice. Compared to common other rice cookers our rice cooker is really fast because of it's 500W power.
