Fine scope for a great price
I would expect to pay another $100 for a scope like this. Easy to use but complex enough to study pond life, and tissue samples with fine clarity. It's not just another kid's toy...it's a quality scope. Thanks Amscope for giving us a good selection of instruments at novice hobbyist price ranges.

Little things are important (npi)
Great scope for the buck, good images at 1000x, haven’t tried the oil immersion yet. The 5MP camera works well. It’s being used to teach a seven year old and four year old and they handle it well, focusing and moving the stage. I can see it as a decent quality lab scope or classroom scope at any level K-grad school, depending upon application. The slide holder on the stage is a weak point, it’s chintzy and slips easily over the slide rather than holding it securely in place. This little thing that really could be better done drops its rating a star. It’s manageable but disappointing.

Great Value
I worked as a lab coordinator for an instructional lab at a major university for 35 years. In that capacity, I have evaluated; made purchasing decisions, and conducted basic maintenance and simple repair on the microscopes used by students. In our labs, this microscope wouldn't last a single semester. Having said that, this microscope is an incredible value at less than $350.00. It includes four parfocal objectives including an oil emersion lens; has an adjustable condenser; has an adjustable binocular head with two sets of oculars; has a build in variable intensity light that is sufficiently bright for use with the four objectives; has concentric coarse and fine focusing knobs; and has a mechanical stage that allows for precise manipulation of the subject slides. The field of view provided is respectable at all four magnifications (eight if you include the alternate set of oculars). Oh, it also includes a 5 MP digital camera that works with your computer. This combination is perfect for an old retiree who wishes to monitor the microbial life in his aquaria and in his river. It would be perfect for home-schooling, if the student treats it like glass. It won't survive rough handling, or an even one fall to the floor.

Good scope poor quality check
I liked the scope but the 40x objective seemed a little cloudy. There was also what looked like a spec of plastic in the scope head which caused a large black dot when viewing through the camera. You could see it while viewing through the eye pieces but wasn’t quite as bad but I bought the scope specifically to view with my daughter and make videos so we could learn about the various micro organisms we found. And the large black dot was very annoying. the black dot on the right side is in the scope.

For homeschooling this is a wonderful scope
Got this for homeschool of our children and couldn't be happier with the quality and function of this microscope. Pictured here are spores from a mushroom specimen prepared on a slide. The camera is very high quality as you can see!

Works well
I purchased this unit to check for parasites in my reef tank. It was easy to use has great optics up to 400X. I generally don’t need anything past 1600x magnification. 1200x; 1600x magnification are oil immersion and find the clarity struggles a bit but does work and for the dollar for dollar value hard to beat at this price point. Definitely YouTube some videos on how to properly use this unit specially the oil immersion lens for solid success.

Best bundle
Good quality, camera is cool (only one problem is camera sensor size, because of that minimum magnification is ~x100). All parts a very good quality. Enjoining
