The Original 14"

Very fast shipping and packed very well. This product works as described to lower the overall tone of the snare making it sound deeper and fatter. It is not a miracle cure for loud volume. That needs to be controlled by your drummer playing with more dynamics and not beating the fire out of the snare - or by some sort of shield or sound deadening device. But, this does wonders in helping get a deeper, fatter sound out of the snare drum.

I found out about the BFS through a drum tune variation video and I really liked that it creates a fat and round overtone and dampens the high-pitched ping overtone from a tight batter head. I drum for church and we love a fat snare sound that’s not a low top head tuning (6.5” x 14”). Overall great product and durable.

I was debating on this for over 2 months and came up with every reason not to have this. I can tell you for those who require a different snare sound song to song and don't have the luxury of bringing a 2nd snare to the gig, or don't have time in between songs to tune up/down or adjust the wires, this does the trick. On my worship gig, this has a place as we only run 4 mics for the kit and it's not possible to have a 2nd snare up on the riser with the in-ear rig. I use Moon-Gels, rings and there's a major sound difference between them all. The rings take out the overtones, and dries up the sound a bit, the gels to me have a bit more dampening and the BFSD has that sound that can fit a mix. Most of the time it's having the right tools for the right job and this has a place for me. Sure I could use a wallet but then I'm loosing real estate on the snare. As far as durability, I can't honestly comment on the long-term at this time. It seems tough and not likely to tear. I'm a hard hitter and this didn't dent right away after 3 songs,so far so good.

I had seen many drummers and Vic Firth promoting Big Fat Snare Drum so I wanted to check it out myself. After watching countless videos of it in use, it proved to be a very versatile tool for all types of drummers, so I pulled the trigger on a purchase in hopes to get that fat sound out of my Vintage Ludwig snare. My order came in way quicker than I expected. I was shocked because I did standard shipping, and it came in as fast a Prime item. It came packaged very well, and my concern that it would be bent or disfigured upon arrival did not come to fruition. Putting it on my snare was like getting a toy as a kid again. My snare is tuned high with some strips of Gaff tape on the head. Putting the ring on changed the sound of my snare completely. It gave my snare that fat, vintage sound that I craved and is so highly sought after. I was very giddy. All in all, this is an outstanding tool that you can use for gigs if you play different types of music. It's very quick to throw on/off and produces a great sound. I love the product and plan on buying more BFSD items.

My problem was that the snare drum was too loud and when the drummers tuned it, it sounded high and dinky. We could never agree on a way to tune it. This lowers the volume some and drops the pitch while still giving the drummers the rebound off the head they want. So far so good. It’s the best solution so far.

very noticeable difference in tone w/ no effort to take on & off; easy to play on

I like keeping my drums tuned in a medium-high tuneful range, which suits my generally jazzy, groove-oriented style. But sometimes I need a fat, low sound that hits harder, and this product does the job perfectly. I’ve cut out old drumheads for the same effect and that can work fairly well, but if the head curls on itself it’s useless. The collar and nub on this product help keep it flush with the drumhead and easily removable. I plan on getting more of these for my 12” rack tom and 14” floor tom. I love using implements and effects on regular Ambassador heads rather than using pre-muffled heads for maximum versatility, and this is a great addition to my sonic arsenal. Love it!

This is thicker than I expected and good quality. The thumb indent in the rubber outer ring does come in handy. Try this: crank bottom head high. Tune batter head low. Loosen snare wires slightly and throw on The Big Fat Snare Drum-- your snare will sound super cool ;)

Fantastic. Very durable and much easier and more consistent than trying to use a wallet or other heavy damping. Doesn't necessarily work equally well with all drums - I was more pleased with the sound from a slightly shallower wood snare than a steel, for example, but your opinion or hardware may differ. I was worried that it might dimple or ripple with repeated use, but no such problems so far and it looks like it should continue as such.

Me gusta como cambia el sonido cuando lo colocas sobre la tarola reduciendo armónicos que pueden ser molestos o no controlados, sin duda buena comora y material resistente, me llego en buen estado pero lo malo es que lo envían empaquetado de forma endeble deberían de protegerlo máspara que no se doble.

Bellissimo, quando serve un rullante fermo o con suono "panettone", in un attimo mettendolo sopra alla pelle classica si passa ad una sonorità totalmente differente. Accessorio indispensabile nella musica moderna.
