Good Quality, Value for money
Sweet sound and voice , bass not too strong but enough, treble sound is good details / no fan noise / Bluetooth easy to connect (within 5 meters, more than 6 meters will disconnect) . Multi connection, everything is good.

Cambridge AXR 100 Receiver
Cambridge AXR 100 Receiver I bought this Cambridge AXR 100 Receiver at Xmas 2025 to take advantage of the hefty 30% discount on offer from both Cambridge and Amazon– reduced from £449 to £349 - to replace my ageing Pioneer SX-757 receiver in my secondary Hi-Fi system and primarily partner up with my Cambridge Audio AXN10 Streamer – the full-size version of the Cambridge MXN10 - which I bought a year ago. This was both for obvious improvements in performance sound quality and aesthetic reasons as both units have a similar design, build quality and lunar grey finish as they were quite literally made for each other. I am using both alongside an old pair of Mission 701s at least in the short term even if these speakers tend to be a bit too bassy and as a result I have turned down the bass and upped the treble one notch on the Cambridge AXR100. In terms of getting started it was straight forward and easy enough. I agree with the comments made by other customers about the underwhelming remote control – it certainly seems like an afterthought in terms of design, layout and functionality but Cambridge generally want the sonics from the separates themselves to provide the thrills as opposed to gimmicks so as long as I can switch it off and on, select sources and adjust the volume then it’s ok I guess. Speaking of volume as another customer pointed out when switched back on after switching off it defaults to a low volume, shame there does not seem to be a way of setting a default volume. Another gripe is that it doesn’t come with an e-arc HDMI input for easy hook up to a TV and relies on the fiddlier S/PDIF. Minor gripes aside I am very pleased with results from the AXR100 as the amp, the source and speakers are a much better-balanced system and much better to handle my diverse various musical tastes e.g. electronica, classic rock, prog, metal and punk, post punk, soundtracks, jazz and classical. The new setup sounds cleaner, crisper and has a greater sense of scale, and the bass is both deep, fluid and punchy. For best results use the best source which when streaming is the format. I have recently upgraded most of my CD rips that I use with my AXN10 Streamer from 192kbps to 320kbps mp3 to the lossless FLAC format which sounds identical to CD. Even high quality Mp3s encoded at high bit rates suffer from some signal loss, compression & have less separation and lack some high frequencies compared to the original CD. Having a load of content in FLAC has allowed me to easily try and enjoy a wide range of high-quality music to put the Cambridge AXN10/ AXR100 combo through its paces and with (almost) everything it touches it passes with flying colours with little to complain about. Whilst I prefer the FLAC for HiFi playback I still have plenty of music in MP3 format purchased from the likes of Amazon and eMusic or I have the CD, but I haven’t yet re-ripped to FLAC so I still use the mp3 version (e.g. Amazon Auto-Rip). One of the reasons for getting a streamer in the first place was to give my MP3s the audiophile treatment and put my ever-expanding music collection in one central digital place. Good news is that MP3 playback via the Cambridge AXN10/ AXR100 combo is more than decent enough giving these tracks and the listener all the thrills and spills in the current form providing the bit rate is around 150kbs or above albeit with something of a minor woolly sock effect on the treble. Case in point my MP3 albums of Bjork’s “Debut”, Hybrid’s “Wide Angle Lens” Lamb’s best of “Best Kept Secrets” and Propaganda’s “A Secret Wish” and The Prodigy’s “The Fat of the Land” all sounded damn good despite a sub 200kbps bit rate. Whilst MP3 albums around or above 250kbps such as John Barry’s soundtrack to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service sound almost close to CD quality. The only things that don’t sound too hot are the FLACs of the first two Oasis albums with their infamous over-loud production and excessive brick wall mastering that makes them sound great on small transistor radios but sound quite frankly awful on a decent hi-fi and I have had the same problem with every system I have owned and generally they follow an inverse relationship with quality of the system. Likewise My HQ MP3 version of Portishead’s Dummy with its muddy Low Fi sound doesn’t do that great either. Bear in my mind that good hi-fi can only bring out the best in what was captured - however it can’t work miracles with stuff that wasn’t properly recorded, mixed or mastered in the first place. I have not used the inbuilt FM tuner much apart from getting it working and trying out as I don’t generally listen to much Radio and when I do tend to use internet radio on the AXN10 mostly to listen to Radio 3. I haven’t used it much in conjunction with a TV other than to watch football mainly because it has made listening to music thrilling again. All in all this purchase was a no brainer.

Acceptable
Connection to Bluetooth is a chore akin to breaking into Fort Knox. Remote control is ungodly and designed by an anti designer. Buttons tiny, please have super super vision. Sound quality is ok, not amazing, just ok. Wouldn’t buy again.

Amazing amp with Bluetooth v5
If you’re thinking of buying this, do it ! The sound quality is great, I am running a pair of warfedale valdus 500 floor standing speakers. I have only had this up half way and it drives them amazingly well. Bass and treble controls via the main display, not sure if they can be adjusted from the remote. The Bluetooth connection is great, it’s version 5 I believe. This can run two pairs of speakers via the A port and B port, these can be ran individually or together. The build quality is great, it’s got some weight to it and it looks great.

Rather Mediocre
A lot of amp for the money; 100w/channel, FM, built in phono stage, bluetooth and DAC. Bought this to use in my second system, being a long time fan of CA. The internal DAC and phono stage are both lacklustre, so I switched to external units. The FM tuner is just ok, no more; a separate s/h Denon Tuner sounds much better. And there's no RDS, just basic station name info. The remote is plasticky, badly laid out and works poorly off axis. Even the basic sound is lacklustre; ok with rock and pop but can't cope with the classical, jazz and ambient music I listen to. My Denon DM41DAB sounds better with only 30 watts per channel. Looks like value for money. Isn't.

I love this amp. Banana plugs make it a lot easier to connect. The sound is amazing, crisp notes I didn’t get from my old Technics amp.
