Custom SharePoint Solutions with HTML and JavaScript: For SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online

It's getting old...
I am excited about using this information, but these techniques are becoming dated. I hope to find solutions to some of my needs with this information. Even a few applications will make it worth the time spent reading.

Introductory material, somewhat disappointing
This book is a very beginner friendly introduction to SharePoint customization using JavaScript, but not much more. I was hoping for something slightly more advanced. This is the book I wish I had read before simply traversing all the (free) material on TechNet concerning JSOM.I wouldn't rightly call any of the actual examples you'll see in this book as real "custom solutions" for SharePoint, but rather a beginner's introduction to create simple pages for performing basic operations using JavaScript in SharePoint 2013.I'm sorry to say I did not learn much new from this book after having already gone through all the free material from Microsoft, which is honestly quite good and has a lot of code examples.

Lot's of good examples
That's what I need, good examples. I could have found this info on Microsoft docs but this was put together nicely with intermediate steps to get there, not just the example code.

A Good Purchase
This book helped me a lot in learning how to work with HTML & JS in SharePoint. I'd definitely recommend it, and I've not really seen any books out there that cover the same topic with specificity and relevance.

Great Overview of the Most Significant and Useful JavasScript Functions in SharePoint 2013
I'm using the concepts and functions in this book on a daily basis. It's incredibly concise and gives me just enough information to produce meaningful results, while also giving me the right amount of depth to explore a concept using Google or Bing.I wholly recommend this book.

Not 2016 as stated in title
The description reads SharePoint 2016, but the book is for 2013. The picture has 2013 in the title, so I guess I just missed it. The book is for 2013.

If you are into customising SharePoint then this is the book for you. It has detailed scripts with each step fully explained.

I wish there were more SharePoint books like this
The book is very useful and helpful giving an insight to the concepts for SharePoint 2013 Front-End development using JQuery, the JavaScript Object Model, and REST API.It contains many code examples and literally explains every code step in detail. There are only two things I don't agree with...1) The concept of the "Etherson Method" :) - it recommends to create a regular document library to host all code files in the site for practical reasons. In my experience all document libraries on SharePoint are cached by default and that causes some very strange behavior, especially in the development and debugging phase. Probably also not the best practice, but I always simply created a folder in the site using SPDesigner to host the script files. I never had any issues since.2) Installing Visual Studio 2013 for development. If at some point in time coding on complex InfoPath 2013 forms are necessary, it requires the "Visual Studio Tools for Applications" to be installed and they, very unfortunate, only work with Visual Studio 2012.That said, still an excellent book. Practical, applicable, and provides good reference material.

Taylor made to me!
Exactly what I needed. The book for someone who knows well how to develop “out of the box” solutions in SharePoint but is not very keen with developing and coding.

This book is very weak and fails to address the subject that it claims to in any depth.
I never write reviews. This is my first one so it tells you something about the strength of my feelings towards this overpriced, under-researched pile of trash.I have been buying and reading computer books for over 20 years and I have to say that this is easily the worst I have ever bought. The quality and presentation are awful and the content is dismal. It fails to even mention any of the significant technologies within SharePoint 2013 used for developing HTML/Javascript based solutions. How can you write such a book and not even mention SharePoint hosted solutions? Or claim to cover SharePoint online and not even have a passing reference to Office 365?
