00-13 SUZUKI DRZ400S: DeVol Skid Plate (SILVER)

This skid fit my 05 DRZ beautifuly, no issues at all.

The skid plate seems well made and a decent value, however when attempting to install the front bracket the countersunk holes were drilled way to narrow to line up the two bolts. After trying several different strategies and combinations of the included bolts, I determined they would have to be drilled out oversize. In the end they had to be hogged out by almost a millimeter each (drilled twice, once with a smaller bit). Once the bolts would finally thread in, it took a couple of attempts tightening the bolts in sequence for them to seat in the countersunk holes. This is extremely important otherwise the skid plate won’t seat as designed. This added much frustration and at least an hour to what should have been a very straightforward project. Also before anyone says "well, your frame was probably bent" my bike up to this point has been a road queen with nothing more strenuous than a gravel road.. On a positive note, all the other fasteners after that lined up in an acceptable fashion. If you purchase this product be ready to drill the bracket to an acceptable tolerance.

Very high-quality materials and super easy to install but due to my stupid customs in my country. It took a very long time for the delivery to arrive but it was all worth it 👍

This is a really high quality well constructed skid plate. Fitment takes all of about 15 minutes, doesn't require any permanent modification and the finished installation looks great. More than adequate protection on the sides and the flat bottom allows easy use of a stand or jack. There are provisions (a notch and a hole) for draining the oil from the frame and case for an oil change but you will find it easier and make much less of a mess if you simply remove the plate (less than a minute job) to do an oil change. Only oversight is that it offers minimal additional protection for the the rear suspension dog bones and bellcrank. If you had to slide your bike over an obstacle, you could still catch those suspension parts but for most of the hits and in articular, hits to the the vulnerable engine cases, you would be well served with this plate. I installed on a 2021 DRZ-400S with no issues.

Massive improvement over stock. Small weight gain. Took several knocks in the first 40 miles and held up flawlessly. I bought this after replacing a crankcase cover with a hole in it. The cover is more expensive than the skidplate. Don't wait like I did.

YMMV, but I didn't have to bend this at all to get it installed. If it doesn't work at first, take the plate back off and change the alignment of the standoff subtly to give you more space in the needed direction.Good motor coverage. Makes the OEM protection feel like a toy.Has cutouts for both oil drain plugs.It looks like I can also add some highway pegs across the front, but I've got to figure out how to do that so I don't have to remove them to change the oil. But that's all on me. :)One thing: it came with an 8mm hex-head bolt for the front-most fastener on the skidplate, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. (What else is 8 mm on the bike? The starter bolts?) Replaced it with a button socket-head for under a buck.And as they say in the description: don't forget to loctite your stuff!

Installed on a new bike, fitment was slightly off, but I made it work. Lok-tite the brackets, then dry install all fasteners. Then remove one at a time and Lok-tite. Overall satisfied.

Wow ! I couldnt be happier. Put this on my 2016 drz400s and I am seriously impressed. The thickness,welds,airflow slots,access holes and coverage area simply couldnt be any better. The construction is 2nd to none and the way it wraps around to protect the crankcase too is just perfect. The thickness over the small stock aluminum strip and 2 plastic crankcase guards is awesome. Installation couldnt be easier either. You wont be disappointed either.
