I bought these juniper berries to create my own handmade tea blends, as well as to add to cooking recipes from time to time. I have to say these are some of the freshest, aromatic, and high-quality juniper berries I have ever purchased - even better than what I had been buying at Whole Foods. When using them in my teas I don't have to add a lot to get an even and wonderful flavoring and scenting of juniper. As you can see in the photo I attached of one of my tea blends which is using the Whole Frontier Natural Products juniper berries called Indigo Dreams, they are ripe, whole, and not shriveled or hard. Many people do not know that juniper is not only the flavoring in gin, but also a delicious flavor of its own that is hard to describe but very woodsy, piney, and sharp. They are not "berries" in the traditional sense of the word and are NOT meant to be eaten like berries. They are actually a type of cone (like a pinecone) but with merged scales that give it the appearance of a berry that come from an edible species of the Juniper tree, which is part of the Cypress family of trees. So these are good for using a few to flavor things here and there, but not to be included with trail mix or as a "snack". To create my tea, Indigo Dreams, I mix them with a lovely black tea, whole cloves, whole allspice, mallow flowers, and butterfly pea flowers, and with these juniper berries that creates a delicious tea, especially in the fall and winter months! Also great when making pot roasts. I would highly recommend these juniper berries to Amazon shoppers, as they are the highest quality I've had the pleasure to experience, and the buyers of my teas have all agreed! Also, as a side note, these are dried berries, but I was simply delighted to find they were still quite fresh - fresh enough that they can be dehydrated much further using a food dehydrator for even longer-term (several years) storages, which I have done. So be aware, these berries are dried enough for the ability to store them on the shelf, but are still quite fresh and therefore much more delicious and even soft under pressure. PERFECTLY dried, with the ability to dry/dehydrate further - I just wish the package were resealable!

Great item. The aroma of the juniper just knocks you back when you open the bag...the true test of freshness. If you prepare any venison for food, juniper is the ideal seasoning to go with it. This product is great and there is no static interaction between the packaging and the berries like some I've purchased in the past. Highly recommend this product.

I am a big gin fan. But some of the better tasting gins on the market are pretty pricey. I was reading about ways to make your own gin so decided to give it a try. And boy am I glad I did! Turns out that gin is really easy and quick to make. All you need is some inexpensive vodka and the right botanicals to go into your gin. The main ingredient is juniper berries and Frontier Co-op has the best prices for the large amount you get. Other things you need are lemongrass, black peppercorns, coriander seed, a cinnamon stick, and some cardamom pods. There are other botanicals you can try to tweak your recipe (angelica root, orange and lemon peel, etc.), but these are the main ingredients. Then all you do is put about 2 tablespoons of juniper berries in a quart jar, a tablespoon of lemongrass, a couple coriander and black pepper seeds, a small stick of cinnamon, fill with vodka, cap and let it sit for 24 hours. Then strain the liquid into a bottle and, voila, your homemade gin. If the brew is too strong for your tastes, you can add a little more vodka and taste it again. I have made some that had rosemary from my garden and that added a different flavor profile that is great if you like rosemary. Your gin will by colored from the botanicals and not clear like the store bought stuff. But I have had blind taste tests and most visitors prefer my gin over the expensive store bought gins. I picked up most of my other ingredients here on Amazon which always seems to have the things that I need to use on my latest hobby. These Frontier juniper berries are just the thing for homemade gin.
