Little Blue Truck Leads the Way

My 1.5 year old loves the Little Blue Truck Leads the Way as much as the original. Sweet story. Children naturally pick up on stories of the underdog and sympathize with those that are bullied. Seeing that kindness and compassion triumphs is heartwarming, and toddlers can pick up on that message even if they don’t understand every single word. Board books are awesome for little hands still learning to be gentle…

My son loves the Little Blue Truck series. This book is fun to read as an adult, even for the 50th time, which is definitely important, because if your kid is anything like mine, then that's how many times you'll read it.

This is the second "Little Blue Truck" book by the same two author and illustrator. My 18 month old grandson absolutely loves the first "The Little Blue Truck" though he seems to like the pushy dump truck best of all. This is another good book in the series. It is a little over long for him to sit through - he usually gives up at about the time the mayor starts his speech. Can't say I blame him - politicians can put me to sleep, too. I think when he is a bit older he will want to hear the whole story but in the meantime, when he arrives at my house in the morning, these are the two books he grabs first to have me read to him. The story is very cute (and Little Blue saves the day "Beep, beep, beep") and the illustrations are so much fun - especially the mean looking eyes on all of the other vehicles. I never realized how much expression could be given to the front grill of a vehicle. Reading time is so special - he isn't a cuddly child - more of a rambunctious one but he does like to sit on my lap on the rocking chair and have me read him stories pretty much all day long. Unless it is diaper change or nap time, I always make sure to read to him when he wants it. Reading to and then later having your child read to you or to themselves is a fantastic gift. I love this book for young children and look forward to seeing another book (hopefully) in the near future.

My toddler and I love the little blue truck series! I think these books are good for both boys and girls and the rhyming is so much fun but also developmentally helpful for toddlers learning how to talk. I have roots in early childhood education and books like these are so good for babies and toddlers to read. I highly recommend it!Our goal is to collect every book in this series, we love them so much.

A fun story that teaches children no matter how small you have something to offer. It also teaches how working together can solve problems.

Overall, this is a good sequel to the Little Blue Truck. Like the Little Blue Truck, the book has a decent moral to the story. However, the message is not as subtle as the Little Blue Truck's message (that the Little Blue Truck was nice to everyone from the beginning, not just when he needed help, and thus everyone was happy to come running to help him and the Dump get out of the ditch). The message in this book hits you over the head a little harder--that everyone should take turns. I dislike this aspect of the book; it makes me feel like it's hitting the reader over the head with its message, but hey, it's a book for little kids, so perhaps that's a given. I also agree with some other reviewers that the underlying tone may be a little harsh in places, such as the bus that says "SHOVE ON, SHORTY!" I can see how some people would not want to pass this line along to their children. As for the rhythm of the story, I find it nearly on par with the Little Blue Truck. A couple of lines are hard to read, but otherwise, it flows extremely well, just like the Little Blue Truck. I don't find this often with children's books, so I consider this a big plus. For me, the illustrations are, by far, the highlight of the book. The buildings are really neat looking and keep my child's interest, and the vehicles have interesting faces on them. Bottom line, I would recommend this book, but I don't feel it's a "must-buy." If, for some reason, you are reading reviews for this book and you do not already have Little Blue Truck (the book before this book), I highly recommend that book. It is, by far, my son's favorite book.

My kids (16 months twins) love the first book 'Little Blue Truck'. They always ask for it to be read and follow the story in their own words. So I bought this book too. I think it's a good story, a good change from country to the city. My kids love this book too. Though I think they have to be a little older to appreciate it better. It is a book I will recommend.

If you like The Little blue Truck, you will not be disappointed with this follow-on book. It is well written story about a country truck, first time driving into the big city. Of course all the city cars and trucks are always in a rush and have no patience to find an orderly way to let cars pass to avoid major traffic jams. The Little Blue Truck doesn't let them intimidate them and he keeps his cool as well as his manners. He goes on to teach the big city folks that "one at time is the way to go". By setting a good example, he convinces the mayor and his fellow vehicles to change their ways. My boys 2 and 4 love this book and I would highly recommend it.

I am compelled to leave probably my first review on Amazon, because this book deserves it. This whole blue truck series is my little 20 month's favorite. There are little lessons to learn from each stories and the words rhyme well and is great for toddlers to learn speaking as they are encouraged to complete the sentences. The illustrations are also beautiful, with many little hidden details and recurring themes across the series. For those who do not know, there is even a downloadable audio book with Alice reading her own book in a very engaging manner. The music soundtrack accompanying the audio book is also very well composed with recurring and appropriate themes and deserves recognition on its own. (The only improvement is that the instrument sounds VST used could be a little more real, but I'm being picky as we are a family of musicians). All in all, we own a huge cupboard of hand-me-downs + new books (probably about 100 books by now), and this blue truck series is one of the best so far. Thank you Alice Schertle. Please write more!
