The Duncurins have been trying out a pair of these ski carriers, ordered and delivered in no time from Amazon, so that we could try them on our ski holiday. You see loads of people carrying their skis, hoisting them aloft on their shoulders. The trouble is you then have to perch the edge of the ski on your jacket and the sharp edge can soon chafe or mark/cut it and if one is not very tall like Duncurin then the hoisted-aloft position is most likely in the person’s face who is walking behind you. You even see some really tall lads carrying their own and their partner’s skis, one set to each shoulder. I think even more than this Duncurin is not strong enough for such a position for his own skis let alone another set and the skier’s most dangerous time is not so much on the slopes but traversing narrow roads, walking on icy pavements or carrying one’s skis and boots just after say visiting the hire shop and heading back to the boot room of one’s hotel. The Duncurins were staying in a super hotel in the Italian Dolomites. The main ski lift is literally just over the road but as we’d not been on skis for two years we thought we’d head up another lift on the edge of town to get our ski legs back round the more gentle red runs of Dantercepies. This involved a fair walk in our ski boots on icy pavements, then up some icy stone steps before eventually getting to the lift. Of course at this time in Italy you also need to approach the lift wearing a FFP2 mask which further hampers your breathing. It is easy to arrive exhausted before even starting to ski! These ski straps are an ideal way of getting on to the lift safely and with least fuss and effort. We found applying the Velcro straps nice and tight and then shortening the straps and finally hoisting the skis over your shoulder as a rifle would be carried rather than like a gas mask case (see episodes of Dads Army) was the best way. You can then use your ski poles as walking poles to steady you further. When skiing you can stuff the carrier in a pocket or even a small rucksack.Upon arriving back at one’s ski locker then you can use the strap and Velcro fasteners to keep your skis together in the locker. Great value and really useful. Please see a couple of pics - enjoy your skiing !
