4lb will be required. At the end, you'll have some left over but the 4lb will give you the correct chocolate flow.

Q: Is this enough chocolate to fill a fountain? Do I need more than one bag?

The chocolate fountain is on the small size and I have used it 3 times with the chocolate. The fountain and the chocolate are really worth it. My grandkids have a great time with their marshmallows and fruits. I only bought the one bag of chocolate at the time that I bought both the fountain and the chocolate.

Q: can you use this in a fondue pot (not a fountain) ?

Absolutely! I've done it many times and it works great! In fact, if I'm using my chocolate fountain for a class party, I usually pre-melt the chocolate in my fondue pot, then pour it into the fountain since there's no stove in the classroom. This chocolate melts to a very smoothe consistency quickly and tastes great. It's been a huge success at several classroom parties and my daughters sleep-over parties.

Q: Do you add oil to this chocolate?

No oil needed. You just melt in a bowl in the microwave, and then pour into your chocolate fountain, or dip fruit or snacks and let dry.
