what size hose dose it use?

Use this hose to fit the 1/2 adaptor. EZ-FLO 1/2 Inch ID (5/8 Inch OD) PVC Clear Vinyl Tubing, 10 Foot Length, 98568. Plain and simple these others don’t give a straight answer. Size up length if needed.

Can this go in a 5 gallon bucket full of water and other things

Depends on the other things. I'm looking for a pump so I can make compost tea and I imagine guano would muck up the intake.

Is the 80gph model adjustable flow? if it is, how slow/gentle/gph is the pump on the lowest setting? need for fw refugium.

It is adjustable but in my case, the change of flow strenght did not make much difference. It also came with 2 attachments, I chose the one with a narrower tube.
