Positive life changes lead to positive brain changes. Drawing on the huge success of his groundbreaking book, The Upward Spiral , neuroscientist Alex Korb offers actionable, step-by-step skills to help you reshape your brain and create an upward spiral towards a happier, healthier life. Depression is defined by a collection of symptoms. You feel crappy most of the time. Nothing seems interesting, and everything seems overwhelming. You have trouble with sleep. You feel guilty and anxious and have thoughts that life isn’t worth living. Each symptom reinforces and inspires new symptoms, and this is a sign that your brain circuits are caught in the downward spiral of depression. So, how can you reverse it? In his first book, The Upward Spiral , neuroscientist Alex Korb demystified the intricate brain processes that cause depression and outlined a practical and effective approach for getting better. Based on the latest research, this evidence-based workbook takes the theory behind Korb’s breakthrough book and distills it into concrete, actionable exercises and skills. Just as one small trigger can drag you down, an effective intervention can start enough momentum to carry you back up. Exercise, attention to breathing, gratitude, sleep hygiene, and positive social interactions are just some of the offerings in this workbook that can help alter activity in specific neural circuits, setting you on the path toward an upward spiral to happiness and well-being. Review: Very helpful book - This workbook has lots of great examples and suggestions on how to reframe depression. They are very helpful if you choose to follow them. Review: Changed my life! - Amazing, it changed my life. I'm the type to want to understand things deeply, and I loved learning about neuroscience. Every tip and little bit of information helped me so much. And learning that doing 1 little thing like going on a walk for 5 mins can start helping your depression immensely. You can tell how much I loved it from all the notes sticking out 😂 I found this from a random Korean YouTuber I sometimes watch and I just got curious what book she was reading. It feels like fate that I happened to watch that specific video, and now this book has changed me.

Great Workbook!!!
Okay, I'd first like to say that the accompanying book is THE BEST depression book I have ever read (and I've read a lot). Alex Korb gave me hope (and anyone who has suffered from lifelong depression from childhood knows that doesn't come easy)! He explains your depression in a manner that is easy to understand, and you finally have an answer to why you're depressed! AND he explains it all! I've read the book a few times. And the workbook is like the notes you want to write down while you're reading. I can't thank Alex Korb enough for his knowledge, humor, and practical steps to move UPWARD! To anyone who wants to understand why your brain is doing what it is doing, please read his book! And if you want to work on re-wiring your brain, buy this workbook! I've been on every single anti-depressant there is, and I've tried ECT and TMS - NADA. They call what I have Treatment-resistant depression (TRD). WELL - GUESS WHAT? There is a way to treat your depression that works!!!!!!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! THANK YOU ALEX KORB, PHD (neuroscientist)! I owe you!

Great workbook for therapists
I use this with clients struggling with making changes with depression. I find it really helps to see it from a neuroscience perspective and makes it more validating that it’s not you, it’s your biology! The author is really hitting home on this point in the workbook- also I haven’t read the book so I don’t think you need to in order to find this workbook helpful.

Best practical workbook Ive seen (so far) for clients challenged with depression symptoms
--Clients receive an educational overview of what's actually going on in the brain relating to symptoms, and there are practical checklists/template logs/journaling exercises that are simple enough for many to use on their own and/or to complete in conjunction within therapy. It addresses breath, movement, mindfulness, sleep, social connections, habits, goals/decision-making, compassion and gratitude, among other topics. It's been a wonderful resource.

Free at last
No more psychobabble. No more reading positive thinking self help books and trying to mimic the behavior they said I could achieve. I'm terrified as I read the introduction. I know this is the tool. I'm afraid of my PTSD paralysis. So, here we go, people. What an incredible publishing achievement!! I'm going to do this...anyway. : )

Kindle for PC Version does not work
To Publisher: I have provided one star rating because I am unable to open the Kindle Version in Kindle for PC Software. It just hangs. I will revise my rating to 5 stars, once this is resolved. I am able to read it in the Amazon Cloud but I prefer Kindle for PC to read this book. Re: Content: The book is a Life Changer and provides immediate hope and will enable you to change your state of mind towards an upward trajectory when your mood is down - especially in this Covid Era. Continued down mood will push you towards a path of downward spiral. This book provides numerous ideas and tricks to change your course for the better. Alex Korb is a Genius - his writing style is simple without any technical mumbo-jumbo and explains the neuroscience in a simple manner of why you feel the way you do and how you can improve upon it.

Well written, constructive, useable for people living with depression.
I like the constructive, small steps approach. It is well written and well organized. I would recommend for people struggling with depression .along with the assistance of a mental health professional, counsellor with training in how to treat and live with depression.

If you want to know why…
I know when I understand the “why”, I find it easier to practice, work with or apply. This book explains not only the how to move forward, but why the recommendations work - the science behind your brain and how it works. What your brain is doing when you are depressed. And how small, repetitive change can alter your brain to help lift you up out of depression. Non judgemental. Very easy to read. Not demanding. Just supporting you and giving you the tools to help yourself. As the author says - if your arm is broken, you aren’t broken. Same applies to the brain. You are not your brain. And you can make changes that will help your brain heal - get back to proper function. And ultimately lift the depressive thoughts and cycles.
