the ratchet was a bit quirky from time to time ...
the ratchet was a bit quirky from time to time and the straps were long which might have been because of the boot type I was wearing.

Not for mountaineering or hiking, only for family fun
These are for family snowshoeing on a flat frozen lake, you can't take these into backcountry or bushwhacking in a mountainous region. I took them out for a 7 mile out and back up a mountain in the Catskills and broke them in 30 minutes. The bindings and materials are too cheap to stand up to any abuse at all. If you're just doing some family fun snowshoeing on an easy trail or frozen lake, these would be fine, but don't head out into an area where you may depend on them holding up in Alpine hiking or you may be screwed. I'll upload some photos when I get some time.UPDATEI added some photos, it's clear that the footbed is breaking into pieces down to the screws that hold everything together from very little usage, I had to double-back and pick up all the broken plastic so I didn't leave it in the park. I did a 7 mile hike and used these for maybe 1 mile. The material for a significant portion of this shoe is just cheap grade hard plastic, not a higher quality rubber or urethane you'll find on a better pair.If you're like me and hike a lot in harsh conditions, and thought you could just get something cheap and they'll perform how you need don't bother with these, they can leave you in a bind. If you're walking from a parking lot to snowshoe on a frozen lake go for it.

Comfortable, lightweight, easy to get on/off
Ordered these 30" Chinook snowshoes out in early January 2017. Took em out for the first time today. Did right around 4.5 miles. I was initially worried because the straps, across the foot, are similar to the old rollerblade ratchets and I didn't feel like I could pull em tight enough. However, halfway through my hike I discovered that what I had thought was a release switch was actually a tightening ratchet. All in all I really liked these. Comfortable, lightweight, durable. I will update if things change in the next few hikes.

So much fun!
Used these over the weekend for a group day hike. I felt pretty confident in these. The others I was with had more expensive brands of snowshoes, but I held my own. I'm going backpacking in these next weekend and will update if necessary. So far I loved the straps, I noticed others taking much longer than I did to strap theirs on. Worked great uphill; going downhill I slipped several times until I started planting my feet flat to get more grip from the front crampons. Not complaining at all considering I know what the others paid for their snowshoes.Update: over a 3 day snow backpacking trip in the sierras, I feel confident in recommending these. Everyone (14 others) were using far more expensive snowshoes and I felt nothing but confidence in these. I'm shocked to see how the more expensive brands have these straps that others struggled with while I had mine strapped on in seconds. The straps on these are solid and so quick. I'm 145 and these worked on a day hike and a backpack trip with a ~45lb pack. Highly recommend.

I would recommend them to anyone needing a cheap pair of snowshoes ...
I purchased these snowshoes for a 200+ mile segment of the Continental Divide Trail in the San Juan Mountains. As a thru hiker I used these to their limit and was surprised how well the held up. I would recommend them to anyone needing a cheap pair of snowshoes for a short trip. I used tennis shoes and waterproof socks.Pros- quick release straps make it easy to clip in.- somewhat light for those times you have to carry on your backpack- plastic held up well for duration of tripCons- aluminum teeth on bottom bend if you walk on rocks- only have 2 straps on top, need a third for better circulation in foot- no traction when side stepping across a slope, no sided to side, great on up and downs.

Mechanisms are easy to use once you've done it once and see ...
First time. I bought 22's for myself and my son. We are both 5'7, there was a 60lb different on our hike as I carried a pack. He wears a men's size 11 hiking boot. These worked well for both of us, there was some light powder that had come down on packed and we were able to travel well without sinking down. Mechanisms are easy to use once you've done it once and see how they work, stayed in place the whole time. Will add (12/04/18) he wears a size men’s 15 in Nike shoe now and these still fit him. The boots he wears with these are men’s 14 , not sure of brand.

No traction. Not recommended for any inclines.
Where to begin... I took these out in July around Raineir. Only positive I can think of is that I didn't sink into the snow. There was no traction, so don't expect to walk up any incline. I wasn't doing any extreme mountaineering and expected to walk across an incline as long as I was perpendicular to the slope. Nope. Thank god I had an ice axe and trekking poles with me.I tried... believe me. I stopped every 10 minutes to clear snow off of the teeth in hopes I'd get some traction.Needless to say, I returned them.

They work every bit as good, and I like the bindings better
They work every bit as good, and I like the bindings better, than another pair I bought locally and paid twice as much for. Absolutely no complaints!

Snow Shoes worked great on the Rocky Mountains
I used the Chinook Trekker snow shoes 30 from a snow shoe hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park on December 27 - 28, 2016. They worked as advertised. The first hike was 8 miles on snowy trails compacted by other hikers and snow showers and kept the traction when on slippery ice and snow. The second hike was 5 miles on deep fresh snow powder and they kept me nice and stable while hiking up and down the Rocky Mountains. I think I actually preferred using them on the deep fresh snow powder. The binding system was simple and effective. I highly recommend these and look forwards to my next snow shoe adventure on them.
