I decided that this was a perfect gift idea for my best friend who is a huge Harry Potter fan but I was really afraid that I would order one and have it turn out to be nothing like the description. So I spent hours looking through all the different options for this kind of mug available on Amazon, tirelessly reading all the reviews to get an honest opinion. I settled on this one because it had the most reviews (a good sign it was the real deal), as well as a good overall rating. So as I was reading through the reviews, I was looking for those that addressed my concerns: 1. The color, 2. If it actually worked, and 3. The overall quality. When it delivered, I immediately checked for these things and so here are my thoughts: 1. The color- The color is pretty much black/deep deep purple. I was really afraid that the map underneath it would be really visible, but to my surprise, it was hidden pretty damn well. If you look closely enough, you can see some of the map, but if you're not actively looking for it, it's really not that noticeable. It just looks like a plain black mug. When hot water is in the mug and the map is showing, there is a gap of white around/underneath the handle area. I thought it would be more annoying than it actually is, but considering your hand will cover it up while holding the mug, it honestly doesn't matter. It's not a super important area of the mug, visually speaking. 2. Does it work- Yes and it is so damn cool! A few seconds after pouring hot water into it, the black color began to fade away to reveal a pretty detailed Marauder's Map. After pouring the water out, the cup took a couple of minutes to fade back to black as it cooled. It was super exciting to watch, it was like magic (teehee). 3. The quality- This cup is a nice, comfortable size and the mug itself seems to be well made. None of the paint was chipped and the mug itself was in perfect condition. I expect it to last quite a while. Conclusion: I bought it with low expectations and I'm thrilled that it was so much better than I'd hoped it would be. I love it so much that I may even have to get one for myself! A brilliant gift idea that won't disappoint. Money well spent.

Bought this as a gift for my daughter. She LOVED it! Perfect size for a mug, details on the decor were accurate and realistic. Still a favorite. If you have a super fan, they will enjoy this mug.

My manager loves anything Harry Potter, so I decided to give this to her as a Christmas gift. When she opened it during our shift together, she was just so happy and excited to receive such a gift. She told me that she uses it all the time whenever she makes herself a cup of tea. She said, "Oh my! My tea always stays warm and I just love the way the cup looks!" I was so happy to hear her say that! Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a picture of this product. But I'm just glad that my manager loves her Maraurder's Map cup. So anyone who's a fan of Harry Potter would definitely LOVE this product! It's worth the price!

Magical map revealed with heat from tea. Nice graphics. Would have liked a visible logo on cold skin, which is very dark and unattractive . Apparently will work well with coffee.

My daughter is a BIG fan of the Harry Potter series. When she saw this mug, she begged me for it. I purchased it for her as a Christmas gift so as soon as she receives it, I will update my review. UPDATE: 12/28/16 - This mug is truly a unique product. When the mug is cold it is black, as soon as you put hot water in it, it changes and reveals the Maurader's Map from the Harry Potter movies. I like the fact that the design wraps around the entire mug. I have another mug that is similar and the design is only on one side. My daughter loves it and couldn't wait to use it. So cool! I bought this for my favorite Harry Potter fan and he loves it. It turns from black to the Marauder's Map quickly and the design is very clear. Extremely pleased with this purchase.

I purchased this for my CEO's birthday! He was like nice, you got me a plain black coffee mug, once he used it and the map showed up, he was in Awe.

Very satisfied with this mug. It "magically" turns into a map as promised, and turns dark again when it gets cold. :-) Cool for any Harry Potter fan. :-)
