Replaces a 2u APC SmartUPS 1500. Interesting...
The Smartups rack mount 1500 is LONG, meaning it's deep. It runs almost as deep as a 1u server. The SmartUPS is also a bit thinner than this replacement unit. Ah, but this unit is 'shorter'.The old SmartUPS was on full depth rack rails, and needed them. They screwed in front and back. This new unit is a 3u vertical space, but is less than half the depth of the previous unit. Tradeoffs? But I didn't want to have to put another massive unit in the top of this rack. I still can't remember who decided to put it 'up there', but it makes some sense, I suppose. (If it ever floods?) And I had the extra space for this taller unit. But this APC unit is not as heavy, and is smaller, so it's a win win. Setup was generally a breeze. This also includes the network attachment included: nice. Oh, and they threw in a cable too! Nice, thanks APC!This unit is perfect for two post racks. It's perfect for short racks, it's not really meant to be sitting on someone's desk, or table, but I suppose it could be put anywhere. And the face of this unit looks very impressive. I really like the aluminum face of this model. It might be a pain to get it off at some point, but it looks awesome. 5*...

Good when it works
Bought my unit in Feb of 2021 with the complete intention that I won't ever have to address battery replacement in it. Paid a premium for Lithium Ion.Well, a battery went bad. Maybe twice it's had to use battery power ever. These things have 10-12 year warranties. Now, Tech support was amazing and helpful, but here's the catch with this one. They DON'T have replacement batteries yet because they didn't expect them to fail.So they are sending me a new unit. Cool, right?Nope..because what I want to do it just take the battery out of the new unit they send us and hot-swap the battery ONLY so that I don't have to bring down my company for an hour or so....But APC support says that I have to replace the WHOLE unit...just because. So, what normally would have been a 2-minute hot-swap job with ZERO company downtime, is gonna take me over an hour of my time, and the company will be unable to access servers for a while. If you can google this battery SKU (APCRBC164-LI) and there are some out there, then this is a decent unit. But until then, proceed with GREAT caution.**Update: So after some back and forth via email with APC support, they are going to let me just take the battery out of the new one they send me, and let me hot-swap it. I updated it to 4 stars from 2 because they made the logical decision. I am leaving one star off at least for now because they said I "could hot swap the battery, but they may contact me at some later date and ask for the old unit back".In my opinion, if they want the full old unit back, this is unacceptable. They don't have the warrantied battery in stock. In my opinion, they just make this right and leave it alone.

Even at its premium price, does as described.
Works as expected! High efficiency also equates to low heat. Great for the home office.

Wrong input plug listed... this thing requires a L5-30R connection to power it! NOT a type-B!
I bought this for one of my remote offices that needs a UPS. The plug listed shows it's a TYPE B. It is NOT. This UPS requires a L5-30R connection to fit it's L5-30P plug. It would be nice if this was listed, because now I have to hunt for adapters after getting on site, unboxing, and realizing there's no type-B connection. Great UPS otherwise whenever you get them powered up.

Good with slight quality control issue
Have had this UPS installed in a network rack for a restaurant for a year now with no issues. I like how the fan doesn't turn on until the load gets higher. How high it has to go for the fan to turn on, I don't know as It was only operating at about 15 percent with all the equipment I have plugged in. I like the front aluminum face plate, it really makes the unit look sharp and professional. But the reason I knocked off a star is because of that faceplate actually. It is attached to the unit with 4 screws, one in each corner. In the middle of the plate it is bowed slightly, so the plate doesn't sit flat against the unit. All APC had to do it is add 2 more screws in the center of the plate. I mean come on APC!! For a unit that almost 2k, little details like that shouldn't be overlooked. I do also like the fact the unit is light and not as deep as most lead acid battery units. Time will tell if this unit will hold up, and if the batteries really last 10 years.

Great hardware, pretty mediocre software
The hardware is great. Instructions for rack install pretty difficult to decipher but you'll figure it out through trial and error. The PowerChute Business Edition software though... it's very basic, busy with some "UPS communication lost" problems. Very limited functionality especially if you want to use it to shut down host and another server. The optional cmd/bat script feature just doesn't seem to work even after trying all the tips and tricks out there. The Cloud smartconnect service works fine, but extremely limited in features and settings. Not much to do but check status and set notifications.Basically, the UPS itself is fine. APC can still make good hardware devices. But the software gets a grade of "D" from me. APC is falling behind in this aspect. And it seems alternative open source options don't yet work that well with this newer Lithium Ion model.
