The Irreverent Guide to Project Management: An Agile Approach to Enterprise Project Management, Version 5.0

Must read for anyone looking to better coordinate the activities of large, complex teams
What is in my opinion the most practical guide to project management in existence, and a rather strong reference to general performance in the modern workplace, has now incorporated Agile principles. I've been looking forward to seeing this come out for quite some time, and it does not disappoint. I personally find the nuggets within the wisdom through experience callouts to be particularly insightful, and the overall text is a rather enjoyable read as well. My favorite line is this gem "The reason PMO leaders need to ensure the consistent application of their methodology and a Project Management Standard is so their CEO and CFO don't need a secret decoder card, ten meetings per month, and a private detective to get the data they need to make decisions. It is worth pointing out that the overall structure discussed in this book may or may not work for your company, and I would recommend caution around adopting it wholesale unless you intend to bring on board a number of staff with experience employing these practices at a major company -- but many of the ideas articulated here, particularly those around etiquette, communication, and leadership, would benefit anyone in any organization greatly, particularly those in roles related to project and program management.

Key for anyone just starting out or experienced who wants to get to a new level! A must have!!!
I am a long time Senior Project Manager. I have mentored new PM's for years. I have taught the PMP classes and helped many PM's pass their PMP exam. I have been a fan of this book and organization also for many years. I have recommended previous versions of this manual to hundreds of PMs.While most PM books deal with a framework or general documents or artifacts, This book goes ahead and says What should I do my first day, My first week, every week, etc. It also gives a clean way of organizing the project documents, a suggested directory structure, and includes electronic versions of templates for emails and critical PM documents (PM books tell you what should be in a charter, this guide says here is an actual charter that you can fill in and tweak as you need)A great resource if you have not guessed for those either new or experienced that has been tested by their people and outsiders (No, I do not work for the company just believe in the product)

Understand and immediately apply the art AND science of project leadership!
Want to understand how to effectively lead people through the most complex initiatives, projects and change? Want to understand how to ensure your project and strategic initiative sponsors and stakeholders feel consistently informed enough to make confident decisions? Does having specific tools on how to conduct your project management "hygiene" in more lean ways sound compelling to you?I have been a project manager, (scratch that, "project LEADER") for 20+ years, also completing my PMP® and PMI-ACP® credentials including classes and preparation guides to prepare for each certification. Certainly valuable learning experiences covering the "what," but this guide fills the big gap on "how" (you'll notice I mention it both questions above). This is the project leader's "bible."

Practical and on-point!
This is a very practical guide. I was out of day to day Project Management and needed to jump back in for a pretty large project. This was the first Guide I used to get me back up to speed quickly, efficiently and effectively. The Guide reads like a roadmap and also gives great insights on those ugly problems faced when running projects. Everything from Day 1 to close out is included, plus practical suggestions on Meetings, Escalations, and memorable nuggets like the 3Bs!I had a pre-kindle launch version from 120VC team, from a few years ago. Since then, I read the Guide as part of my Project Start-Up process.Highly recommend this book.

Practical advice well worth taking
There is no shortage of books telling us how to better manage projects, but many are stiff and strictly adhere to methodologies, which may or may not be right for our companies or projects. ‘The Irreverent Guide to Project Management’ is different and well worth reading! The recommendations are flexible and support finding the best approach to meet real-world needs. This book is also filled with practical advice. I love the three B’s for instance – be brief, be brilliant, and be gone. The writing style of this helpful guide follows this rule – it is brief, brilliant, and gone (you finish reading), but the lessons learned will likely remain.

The PM toolkit that works in the real world
My team used the principles/methodologies in this book to role out a global software implementation. Jason's methods/tool kit work. We stayed on time, and on budget all while dealing with complex variables and cut throat executive stakeholders. If you're a leader, or want to be one, the information in this book will be a critical part of your talent stack.
