Nautical Brass Spy Glass Telescope 18" Collectibles Victoria

I got this for the novelty of it. It's nice on my shelf but I wanted to add that it actually has a pretty good magnification. Very fun and very neat.

I bought this for my almost-five-year-old grandson, because he loves to play pirate, and he wanted a spyglass. He loved it when he saw it. It looked like just what he wanted. I and other adults, though, have found this instrument very difficult to focus, and so has my grandson. He therefore doesn't play with it, so it's kind of a waste for him. Adults might get some use out of it, but it isn't easy. Great for a theater prop!

Note scope is NOT gift ready. Photos show how I boxed it. Scope is appears made of brass. To use extended all sections, the last short extension is a lens shade. To focus push in and out the small tube slowly. You must be careful to not push pull fast.Try focusing on something at a distance 100 yards or so . Look at something with contrast a pocket fence then shine of a chrome bumper, a light .Best used in daylight.The lens does not have a wide field you must center your eye and be steady. A bean bag or resting the lens on something would be helpful. I'm guessing about 3 x ? I only had it out to check and then wrap .Note I used a wine box, painted the cover black to block label. Wrapped lens I paper from paper bag. I hand wrote the same instructions on paper.I'm giving this as a gift for a 15 year old boy for our church.

Does NOT work, so I have to used as paperweight…!!!

I have two sons and I bought one for each of them. Once was in great shape but the other arrived with defective elements. There is a second lens unit inside the telescope that is supposed to fit into the end of the first (smallest) cylinder. It was floating loose inside the telescope, making a rattling noise. I opened up the telescope and found there was not threading on the inside brass of the first cylinder to hold the lens unit in place. I glued it in place and put the telescope back together and now it works well. It also came with the front cylinder (light shade) dented a bit but it functions.

I bought this as a birthday present for my sister and she absolutely loves it, just wish it came with the case.

I've always wanted a captain's spyglass since I was a little girl and I romanticized a life at sea. I love brass as well. And I was enchanted with this spyglass when I saw it for sale. It came before it was supposed to and it looks awesome on my mantle
