For someone who is extremely difficult to buy for (he has one of everything) this was a home run pick! How I will top it next year is beyond me. Great book for the hot sauce beginner or expert. Covers all kinds of sauces from all kinds of places. Definitely recommend! Review: A AWESOME starter book for someone wanting to make their own hot sauces. - This is a great starter book. The Queen of Heat Scores a Direct Hit!
Being a well-traveled Texan, I have had a wide variety of hot and spice sauces and salsas. My passion has led me to make my own for the past 10 years. So when I see a recipie I like, I try it and then put my own spin on it the next time I make it. Jennifer's recipies are perfect without needing to be tweeked - flavorful, many layers of fruit, spice, and heat. The book is entertaining as well as instructional, with a really funny description of how a first encounter with a habanero chile pepper can bring you to levels of hell you couldn't even imagine! This little lady know her heat and my Stetson is off to Jennifer Trainer Thompson! lonestar927

Nice cook book with some extras in it.
I love hot sauce so I decided to buy this book so I could learn more about making these sauces at home. This book briefly goes over the history of famous hot sauces like Tabasco, Louisiana, and Sriracha. It also discusses some of the common hot sauce ingredients and types of chilies. After this mini-history on hot sauce the book has some recipes for approximations of the above sauces along with other recipes the author recommends. There are 32 hot sauce recipes in total. The recipes range from mild to hot with most trending towards the middle. Of course you can tame or spice up these recipes depending on how many seeds/chilies/etc you add or remove from the recipe. After all the hot sauce recipes there are 60 recipes that use these hot sauces. Additionally, these recipes will recommend a complementary retail hot sauce that can be used so you're not stuck having to create your own hot sauces to complete these recipes. Since everyone has different tastes I can't comment one way or another if you'll like the recipes or not. However, if your an adventurous person (you probably are if you're reading a book about making hot sauce) then I think you'll find plenty of worthwhile information in this book.

Great hot sauce recipes
Exactly what I was looking for. Has a whole section dedicated to different kinds of hot sauce recipes followed up by a section with recipes using those sauces. A lot of books I looked at were more focused on food recipes which while great I wanted a good selection of how to make your own hot sauces themselves. I wish it varied into some even hotter pepper options but still I think it is a great book!

Good, comprehensive book.
I chose this for a hot sauce fanatic as a gift. I did like that you can take a sneak peak at the contents, as there are quite a few books out there like it. The recipes are easy to follow, and the extra tidbits included are very informative and fun. The author appears to know their hot sauce, but doesn't talk down to the reader like they are superior on the subject. Overall a great purchase, with a very happy recipient.

Dirty Cookbook
This book has spent some serious time opened up in my kitchen getting splashed! I have made at least 20 of these recipes so far. From mango salsa, black bean soup, Tomatillo Salsa, Jerk Sauce, Grilled Oyster shooters, Guacamole like no other, the list goes on and on! Get this book if you like good hot food. A Bit Disappointed
I first saw this title and was very excited to pursue making my own hot sauces. Upon getting the book, the recipe selection was not as extensive as I would have liked. About half the recipes in the book were dishes to cook using the sauce, which also recommended store purchased sauces. Defeats the purpose, does it not? The book does have a good history of peppers, pepper types, and pepper uses.
