Excellent sound quality, and all the features I needed.
I was in the process of recording an audiobook. I was using a cheap generic condenser mic, and I was spending lot of time on the editing trying to reduce unwanted sounds. I spent 2 years just to record half of the book. So It was the time to do something about it. I bought one of the popular logitech and this one because of the reviews; made several tests recording the same thing with the 3 mics and you can really hear the difference between all of them. Despite costing almost half of the logitech brand mic, this one sounds much better, obviously this and the logitech sounded much better than the generic one. Having the mute button in front is very convenient when continually recording. I could connect my Sony noise cancelling headphones directly to the mic so I can hear me speak and that helped me to hear not only my modulation but also detect any unwanted sound around. It is more than 6 months since I got it, it is always connected so it is always ON, and not a single problem or issue, it is very durable. In fact I use it on my conference calls and it is perfect that I can have the call hands free. The base is a heavy so that it can be firm with the mic. Definitely worth the small investment.

Just what I was looking for!
I am so pleased with this microphone. For starters, when I decided to buy a USB microphone for playing virtual D&D during the pandemic, I wanted it to be one that I could use to do some non-professional music recording with as well, since I play a handful of instruments and I sing. I don’t have my old setup with condenser mics, XLR cables, mixer with phantom power, etc., but I knew I wanted something that was going to provide good quality for it being USB and that would work well with my MacBook, as well as any other device I might want to use it with. Having worked at Guitar Center for many years and being musician who previously helped run a studio, I was really partial to Blue microphones and Shure microphones and thought for sure that I’d be going with one of the Blue Yeti microphones. I already own a Blue Snowball but wanted something more versatile and higher quality. After looking at the Blue Yeti mics, I realized that they don’t play all that well with Apple products, which is a major issue for me. I noticed this AKG mic on the search results and decided to do a little research on it. Turns out, it was exactly what I was looking for! I knew AKG was a high quality brand like Blue and Shure, so I felt confident that I wasn’t being duped. You may think it’s snobby, but if I don’t see a brand sold at Guitar Center or find it on the Sweetwater page, I generally will shy away from it. There are a lot of low quality makers of music supplies that love to take advantage of people who don’t know any better. Beware. Anyway, I ultimately decided on buying this particular microphone out of all the ones I saw in my price range. It arrived a few days later and I was ecstatic. The sound quality is amazing. If you’re a beginner and you don’t know much about microphones but you want a good quality for recording interviews, podcasts, or making some solo artist music that sounds great without throwing thousands into a recording studio, this is a great little setup. I could see an acoustic guitar playing singer/songwriter making a nice demo with this. You don’t need to know the microphone pattern names like cardioid, bi-directional, omni, hypercardioid, etc. This mic uses simple names and they are easy to switch through. I obviously recommend this mic and am happy with my purchase. 😉

Good starter mic, looks impressive on your desk, easy phone/tablet/computer connectivity
The AKG Lyra provides a good platform to get into recording. The feature combination I value most in its price-range and compatibility is that it has adjustable gain _and_ USB compatibility. I can record from my Android phone and my iPad anywhere, turning down the gain to deaden background noise. I’ve not noticed any hum or distortion that plague many USB mics. The stand is stable and there’s a socket so you can mount the mic to a mic boom. The USB interface can be a little clumsy in that the mic usually hijacks sound output, so you’ll want to use corded/stereo-mini headphones for playback, setup, and monitoring. The USB and headphone jacks are placed between the mic and its stand swivel restricting flexibility of the mount. The mic seems bulky to travel with, so I wish I could find a case to keep it travel-scar free.

Great sound for a USB mic
I have a few decades of audio background and this is surprisingly good for a USB microphone. This does the job for podcasts or zoom or anything else of that nature, and I notice some people use it for music but my singing does more harm than good. I bought it used and feel like I got a great deal.

Nothing else like it!
All features work as advertised making this truly the most diverse and easiest to use mic out there. I use it with my iPad Pro directly into GarageBand via the USB-C port and it works great. Plus the sound quality is fantastic and very customizable due to all the control knobs. Extra note for people planning to use it with iPad: One weird thing I have experienced is that the “volume” knob doesn’t play nicely with iOS (iPad). The iPad doesn’t recognize the microphone as a proper headphone amp/interface and doesn’t really know what to make of it. You can adjust the volume with the knob, but if you touch the volume on the iPad directly, it will override the volume to match what you set on the iPad. It still works, but I’ve already almost deafened myself by dialing in the volume on the mic, and then adjusting the volume via iPad only to have it jump up a few notches too loud. Typically when iPad has a headphone amp/audio interface connected, it disables volume control on the iPad and relies solely on the interface for adjustments. That’s not the case here, so the volume controls compete with each other and do not stay in sync. My suggestion would be to always adjust volume directly from the iPad and forget about the onboard volume knob when monitoring with headphones. Overall, everything works great and sounds great and there’s literally nothing out there with similar features. Very unique!

First of all, I disagree with some the negative reviews given here. I would like to give a genuine review. I bought AKG lyra mainly for podcasting as well as recording. I pre-ordered the microphone and got it delivered on June 8th. I've been using it for different purposes since then. I can promise that it is a great quality microphone. Its worth every penny you spent for it. If you learn to adjust the gain control you will get crystal clear voice even in reasonably noicy atmosphere. I've tried recording it with Nuendo and Abelton live softwares and its results are impressive. I use it for zoom webinars and my friends say that it gives a clear sound. You can easily mount it on a normal microphone stand or a boom scissor arm stand. I use it on boom scissor arm stand a d I love it. You can easily connect it to Mobile, laptop or iPad. Though it's body is made of plastic, the stand is made of metal and according to my opinion that doesn't affect us in any ways. If any of you are looking for a budget microphone with an assured quality and performance you can surely go for it without hesitation. We are using AKG codeless microphones for few years in our church, with that experience I can tell you that AKG keeps the sound quality, durability and their standard even in their least priced models. Before I purchased it I went through a lot of international reviews and comparisons. All the professional guys gave good positive comments on AKG lyra. Compared with several others brands and features I found it better and affordable. I am glad about my choice.
